    Champ Manager 97/98

Oh dear, I've managed to download CM97/98 (my favourite) with season data for 13/14, as well as up to date backgrounds for the clubs. I'm currently working on updating all of the 'generic' backgrounds with shots from 2014.

    Goodbye life.

Was anyone else a big champ fan back in the day?

I loved Cham Manager back in the day & I'm perilously close to buying FM 2014 at the moment for something different to play but do pray tell how on earth you found 97/98 & up to date data???

    That would be awesome!!!

Give me another night or two of tweaking and I can pass you a DL link with everything contained and hopefully 100% up to date. Right now everything is there apart from the Charity Shield contenders the game starts with (need to change that to Community Shield whilst I'm at it), many of the generic backgrounds, and the year '97. I fear if I default it to '14 all of the players will instantly age 17 years and I'm not fixing 20,000 birthdays. Well, I might do if it comes down to it.

The wages could be doing with an update, but I don't know how possible that is. It looks like a simple case of adding a zero on the end.

This is legal distribution, by the way, before any mod fancies himself.

97/98 was my favourite of the series.

FYI, the PSP versions of Football Manager were modelled on that era of Championship Manager, and they're surprisingly good.

You sir are an absolute legend I would love that, thank you so much

I've been getting back into football more & more recently...to the point that I am seriously considering a Season ticket to Southend for next years campaign & I had been eyeing up FM 2014 on Amazon as it's under ?15 at the mo so thought that would be the best I'd get but this is just unreal.

          Thanks again Dave

I had been considering a Vita recently just for FM on the go.

Sunk a life threatening amount of hours into 97/98 though 00/01 became my favorite.

Had a game on 00/01 with Valencia where I did over 80 years and it pretty much kill screened, I think I saw the end of Champ Man. Goalkeepers weren't retiring they were say for example 55 years old with their mental stats intact but all the rest were 1's, in the end it just spazzed out and wouldn;t continue.

Alright! I've found something called CMTIME.EXE which can make your save file time travel. I'm unsure as to how this would correlate with the players database although I've learned that if you can't be arsed entering the exact birthdays for the players you can easily replace that with their age instead. I'm hoping this 13/14 season data I have is loaded with ages rather than birthdays...

Let me have a tinker and I'll see how far I can get. Still not found anything on the wages, but I CAN alter the club transfer records as well as stadia capacities and fan following stats.

I can also add multiple backgrounds per club, so you get a random one pop up each time when the club is in focus. I might try adding an additional two per Premiership and Championship sides.

              ----

LOL Base, that's some funny ****.

Jesus man this is seriously a labour of love, bet this is taking ages?

Looking forward to how it turns out.

The main thing that used to mung me off about Champ 00/01 was if you were a foreign club with a B team, if they played for the first team, then the B team, then the first team - they would lose their season stats, Also in the B teams players didnt seem to get any benefits unlike reserve teams where they would grow, was a lame oversight.

Also Regeneration, you know that you'd basically end up with the same players 15 years later.

                  Also this:

For me CM97/98 was and still is the best football manager game i have ever played. I lost many, many hours in my youth playing this with my best friend friend, which led to many nights without any sleep. Used to be able to do a season in a few hours and the transfer market was the best ever. Always used to fight to sign Marc Vivien Foe, Daniel Amokachi and an unknown Brazlian youngster called Claudio at the start, great days.

Would love to play this again, if you could point me in the right direction to the original game i would be very grateful.

Claudio! Blast from the past or what! lol

Would you like the original 97/98 season data? That shouldn't be too hard to sort out, although the one I found came with 10/11 data.

Neil, this is all someone else's work, although they've only done 90% of the job on it to bring it up to speed. Luckily I should be capable with bringing it up to 99%.

Christ, that's my work cut out for me....

I need to check a few birthdays. Hopefully it's just a matter of adding 16 to each birth year.

Edit: Nah, they're all completely out of whack. Great. I'll also need to edit when they joined their respective clubs, as well as when their contracts expire.

I'm questioning if I can be arsed doing all of this manually. It's just taken me five minutes to do one player.

Yeah tell me about it, Claudio was one of the best unknowns in the game and was very cheap to purchase from what i remember. Another legend was ibrahima Bakayoko, used to be a goal machine for about 8m. After about 8/9 season when i could sign just about anyone my dream team consisted of

                          1 Pagliuca
                          2 Roberto Carlos
                          3 Leonardo
                          4 Cafu
                          5 Nadal
                          6 Figo
                          7 Zidane
                          8 Rivaldo
                          9 Seedorf
                          10. Ortega
                          11 Batistuta

That generally was what i always tried to end up with, with Raul, Shearer, Ronaldo Del Pierro etc making up the subs bench. Ahh happy days.

That's the community page where you can download the 13/14 season data. It's just a matter of extracting the three databases and copying them over the existing ones. I'll be updating the backgrounds pack and placing it up here for download, and I'll probably offer it to those guys for their site too. That's as far as my contributions will go because this database editing is no ****ing joke at all.

I've downloaded the original files and databases and I'm repackaging them into one unified zip for easy download. I'll post the link here soon. Make sure you download DOSBOX as you'll need that to run CM2E16.EXE

You'll be able to download it from here (Original CM97/98) in a few minutes.

Man that sucks, shame it didn't work out in the end.
That would be such a total ball ache to do each player.
