I spotted a copy of Akai Katana for 360 in Cex recently, frustratingly it had a great big sticker on the manual and was generally a bit beat-up and it goes on eBay for brand new for not much extra (so that's where I'll get it). What I didn't notice until today is that this had also come in, probably because it was on the bottom shelf and I've passed the age where games are worth sacrificing my knees.
Deathsmiles: Deluxe Edition (Xbox 360): They say Deluxe Edition, but I'm pretty sure there's no standard edition on this PAL release. It seems Cex have gone mad recently and dropped this from £18 to £12, even though the going rate on eBay is about £25. You can't quite see it due to my protective wrapping, but the case on this one is actually pretty rough - yet the inlay, manuals and discs are lovely. Guessing it must have been sat in some shop for years. This so-called Deluxe Edition has 3 discs - game, soundtrack and some "desktop accessories" (pervy wallpaper). It means that to replace the case I'm going to have to look out for some mint condition cheapo 3-disc game to swap the special case, probably L.A. Noire or Rage or something.
Also, it's bloody typical that in that particular branch of Cex where most of the staff are nerdy/bored/stoned-looking men, on a hot summer day where I'm already starting to look like a clammy sex pest, that I get the shout of "next please" from the one ordinary woman who works there and have to hand over a game where the cover star is a 13-year-old anime girl in a frilly dress.
It’s worth looking a perv though, Deathsmiles is excellent. You’re right, in PAL land there’s only the deluxe edition which I think is the de facto version. It comes with the DLC from memory unlike the Japanese version.
So my monthly subscription to Sega Powered arrived and what’s this? A cover disc some twenty years after cover discs (or indeed video game magazines) were a thing? Got to love the retro community… stuff like this evokes so much nostalgia.
Now all I need to find is a Dreamcast that hasn’t been ODE modded and still has a working GD ROM drive!
I've always loved the look of those Astro City double sticks. What a cool design. Strongly considered getting one at one point but quite frankly I'd have no use for it.
Gorgeous artwork on the Front Mission too. I love the style used on those boxarts.
