The Sharp X68000 cost around $3000/?2000, so more expensive than even the arcade boards(CPS-1 etc..) that it had roughly the same power as. So it's little wonder that it ran perfect(or near) ports of some of the best arcade games of the time. Capcom even used it to develop arcade games.

So, at that price, there wasn't an import scene for it. You're talking about a time when spending ?250 on a new & flashy 16-bit console was seen as extravagant.

Gorgeous. JP MD/MCD is definitely the best looking version imo.

Just fitted a unit from IKEA in my gaming room to house my now modest game collection in:

Microcosm came with a console I bought off eBay - I swear!

So picked up a complete copy of Actraiser 2 this week, solid game not as good as the original. Platform sections are improved but it badly missed the sim sections:

Here's some gameplay we did from it, for the channel.

Despite the graphics being very well-drawn and attractive, the game really disappointed me. Not because the overworld sections are gone, but because the sprites are small, the movement sluggish, and it just isn't very fun to play. If you complete the original, you get Master mode, which enables you to play through just the action sections, which are far more enjoyable than #2.

I didn't like Actraiser too either, for exactly the same reasons you mention. I look forward to nakamura using the classic 'you just have to get used to the controls' line

The action sections remind me of Ghouls n Ghosts, just not nearly as good!

Because it's true. The game is perfectly playable and has a variety of moves that most don't even know how to do. Just because you abandon anything you suck at after ten minutes.

Hah. Knew you'd say that. It's got clunky controls that's all there is too it. And you're right, I do get bored of games quickly, and when they have naff controls they turn me off even quicker.

Action sections in the first game are pretty poor to be honest, the sequel has far better ones it's just the difficult is way to high for beginner the first stage is one of the hardest in the game and you're better off selecting another..

That I do agree with the platform action in games like Ghouls n Ghosts is just better.

Watch and weep strider it's all about learning the game:

57 minutes! that's impressive, but you can get good at any game if you play it long enough.
I'm just not convinced by it. All style, no substance.

The first stage is indeed much harder than the following stages. The character has weight and inertia but he also has a couple of tricks to counter that. The game plays absolutely fine. It's tough to master and certainly offputting for sure, but its design certainly feels very deliberate.
