There are still loads of these handhelds coming out.
Anbernic have developed a really small console!

Take A Closer Look At The New Anbernic RG Nano
"After months of anticipation, we finally see more from the elusive Anbernic RG Nano handheld emulator. A teeny tiny handheld aimed to be the most pocketable game device out there."

Funnyplaying Launches NEW Retro Pixel Pocket Handheld
The Retro Pixel Pocket handheld from Funnyplaying has a pretty obvious inspiration. In case it’s not obvious to you, it is modeled after the Nintendo Game Boy Pocket.

With Funnyplaying being the number one source for Game Boy replacement parts, it all will make a lot of sense.
They have been making the highest quality buttons, silicon, shells, and screen replacement kits for various Game Boy models for years now.

Miyoo Is Still Trying To Make The Mini Horizontal Handheld
"It looks like Miyoo might have a pretty busy year with their Mini+, Mini Flip, and now new images of the long forgotten Miyoo Mini Horizontal (aka the Miyoo 282)."

    Retroid Pocket Flip
"The new Retroid Pocket Flip has won me over, despite its minor shortcomings. In this video I'll talk about all the things that made me love it, and a few aspects I wish were a little bit better."

SZDIIER D-007 another small portable retro console with OpendinGux
"A retro portable console with hardware quite similar to what we find in the Powkiddy RGB20S, since we find the same processor, screen size, 3.5″, and resolution. As a system, we have the OpendinGux linux distribution loaded with multiple emulators. The only distinguishing point is its two sticks with luminous LED halos located in the lower part of the console, which with this position do not seem very comfortable."

Concerned about that, because it appears to have the same screen as that other small model they did, I think it was called RG250v or something like that? Killed my love affair with ANBERNIC as it arrived with a 1mm gap along the edge of the screen, and was a bit of a pain to return and refund (though to their credit, they did refund it).

Potentially calculated move there, showing a Saturn game. But the FPS counter of ~36 doesn't inspire confidence!

I got fed up waiting for the regular Mini to come back in, so went with a Mini+. Got some more buttons from Sakura Retro Modding on Etsy, which look and feel great.

QC, have you updated Onion OS lately? I'm on beta v4.20 and it packs some very impressive screen filters now (must have integer scaling enabled):

        3x Grid:

        3x LCD (Dark):

        2x Scanlines:

Are these obtainable now? Last time I looked, they were sold out at the primary supplier and being resold on eBay for silly money.

This is the Mini Plus, they’re a little bigger, and easier to snag if you follow the Telegram stock update group. They were actually struggling to sell the white one lately - it was in stock for a day or two.

I’d take a size comparison shot for you but my wife confiscated our son’s regular Mini and now can’t remember where she put it.

I’ll buy a regular one if they come back, as I bought a really nice leather playing card case in preparation that’s now just sat in a drawer not being used.

I get what you mean, but to me that's a "no". I would just want to rock up and buy one without hassle.

It looks like black, grey, and purple are all in stock right now.

I recommend. The bigger one fits my hands a lot better, and I'm no longer restricted to just Tetris and turn-based JRPGs.

Not updated the mini, I didn't even know there was one - I've got it working now, so not needed to look, but those scanlines look great!
                  Cheers!

                    Those filters look brilliant.

Looking at Dave’s photos is making me go all Gandalf “don’t tempt me Frodo!” so maybe I should unsubscribe from this thread

You always seem to get these things set up so much better than me Dave.

The Onion OS installation does a lot of the heavy work with the RetroArch config, but there are still a handful of settings that need switching over for each core to end up like this.

If this thing wasn’t in the handheld space I wouldn’t be arsed at all. The MiSTer has brought around the end of countless hours ****ing about with emu settings. Although I do like configuring filters for weird/wacky/authentic results.

I liked the idea of those, but the screen size and resolution honestly puts me off - as well as the ergonomics.

Miyoo confirmed today that they've completed testing on a new batch of screens for the regular v2/v3 Mini, and that a huge drop of 6K units will occur sometime in August.

                                Take that, scalpers!
