Follow Baseley09 advice If you go for a PC. An old Dell office computer can be had for £40-£50. Add a low profile GPU, throw it under the TV and call it a day.

I have an Optiplex 390 and it's perfect for that, although I mostly use it for Stepmania.

Apparently Teknoparrot needs an i5 and GT950 or better, not sure how strict that is though. Triforce games like Mario Kart Arcade GP1 and 2 as well as F-Zero AX can run straight off a modded WiiU so aren't too demanding and after a Google search I found some posts on reddit about people running stuff like Initial D via Teknoparrot at 60fps using a GTX750 so I imagine most mileage comes down to each title.

ExZAKctly - "Any recommended links / sites to buy this from in the UK / find out more?"

I think there may possibly be a waiting list but you can get complete ones here:
https://ultimatemister.com/

I just ordered the DE10 Nano from America & it came within about 4 days, I think I paid £115. I then bought various bits from Ebay & Etsy Sellers & built it up.

@MisterAddons on Twitter is also about to release the first case that actually looks really attractive too:

I beg to differ. Moving from real hardware/FPGA Super Mario World and Final Fight (unfortunately for me my two most played games) over to software emulation is pretty noticeable. Even NES Double Dragon 2 feels off.

Run-ahead can eliminate even hard-coded native input latency for the cost of graphical glitches. It's all give and take. With FPGA you know you're not going to run into any compromise. Anywhere.

Also, like Gradius mentions with the RGB out - it's by far the best in class and transcends native hardware.

You could go my route and be emulating ps3 at 2k 60fps

I’d go mister for up to SNES emulation

The programmer of the FPGA PSX Core has given an update tonight on twitter. Not only is it nearing completion but he has used #MiSTerFPGA! :

PSX on FPGA, update #16 :

GTE hardware implementation 86% complete.
Registers 100%, microcode 86%, data path and other mostly complete.

#fpga #psx #MiSTerFPGA

Thanks

To earlier point about Time Crisis 2, there are PC lightguns but no easy solution , which makes no sense after all this time.

I've been playing a lot of arcades on my Miyoo Mini, but it's had me hankering to play some arcades with a proper joysick as it's not quite the same on handheld.
I have an OG Xbox, but the lag is pretty noticeable.

Got one of those Dell 7040 micro PCs that crashed, so I've just formatted the 500Gb HDD and reinstalled Win 10 Pro, although I have a 256Gb Win 11 Home SSD sat in my drawer.

It has a Intel i5 vPro processor and 8Gb RAM.

What would people suggest as the way forward for an emulator to sit under the telly?
Realistically, I'm going to be playing arcade games, rather than consoles, but I'll dip into Mega Drive etc.

I'm trying to do this on a budget, so don't suggest get a new hard drive/MiSTer/R360 cab, but should I stick with Win 10 so that it can do other stuff too or format to something like Batocera, so it boots straight in?

Any arcade stick suggestions?

Cheers, gang!

It's not "budget" but you may want to consider the Steam Deck. This is one of the reasons I got mine; I actually sold off a couple of emulation devices on the way to get it.

Mainly because you get this, but then you also get the other features of the device too.

I've got a small Win 10 PC with Launch Box on it, it runs quite well and looks really slick. It cost about £9 I think. Plenty of support online?

Ha, thanks, but buying a Steam Deck really isn't the budget option I was looking for!

No problem I only mentioned it because this was one of the main things that convinced me to go for it.

Raspberry Pi 4 (4 or 8GB) and a RetroPi image from Arcade Punks, for the stuff you want to emulate that's all you need.

Trouble is sourcing a Pi at the moment - unless you want to be eBay scalped, but keep an eye on https://rpilocator.com/

Thanks, Marty.

I literally have a PC in my possession, so I'll probably go that route, rather than paying for more hardware, but it's good to know Pi is still recommended.

If you're noticing lag on an Xbox you'll likely notice it on a Pi, too.

It sounds like you have many months of tinkering around with RetroArch ahead of you. I spent years doing that and never ended up 100% happy. :/

Finding a controller/joystick with the absolute lowest latency is the best advice I can give.

(I still need to look into that Onion OS query, too!)
