My vol3 stuff is currently sat in parcelforce depot hopefully will be here mon, while i was waiting i decided to grab some stuff while it's still available as on amazon japan all the egret II stuff like main unit as well as the controllers are now only available from resellers who are taking the piss with the prices they are wanting. Thankfully amazon uk isn't somewhere the japanese look so the main stick and also the joypad are still available there. The stick is kind of expensive at £80 bit it sure hell beats the £140 japanese sellers are asking and with it been uk i'm not getting hit with shipping costs because of the weight of that thing i wanted another so i could do 2 player without having someone resort to having to use the main unit as the controller plus it's nice to have a backup stick just iin case. Will grab another pad too while i can get it so i have a backup of that as well.

Finally gone box rummaging to get everything back out including my vertical monitor as it has been all stored away since the move so i can set the egret back up as i wanted to play vol 3. Needed to find a SD card to do the latest firmware update so the new vol 3 would work as it seems you need to do it now with every edition as they have beefed up the SD card encryption to try and discourage people hacking. Least with firmware updates they try to fix various bugs like the wrong screen ratio in previous versions & some games having graphical & sound issues.

It's quite the mountain of boxes for 1 "mini" system but out of the arcade ones this ones kind of my fave it's a really nice way to play some pretty obscure Taito releases.

Withe the base attached it does look nice however the base doesn't lock in solid so you have to be careful when picking it up as the base can come loose if you grab it wrong, best to grab it by the egret & not the base.

The inside only has a tiny amount of space for the coins via the slot around the front the rest of the internal space has been allocated for storing your marquee cards thankfully the plastic box i use to keep all mine and the paddle expansion set fit inside but there's enough room to stack several boxes so it will be able to hold all of the collection with room for plenty more if they decide to keep going with more taito memories expansions.

Akkanvader my favourite out of Vol 3 easily and to be honest out of vol 1 & 2, it's one i have wanted on there since it was first released i'm happy it's now available to play again without having to resort to mame emulation or making do with the PS2/PSP releases. Plays really nice too got the vertical monitor set back up but i need to track down my HDMI input switcher so i can flip between the monitor & the TV.

Taito is still killing it with this thing. Actively still supporting it with new releases as well as fixing bugs puts it waaaaay ahead of the rest. Need to have a go of all the other titles in volume 3 as i have only been playing akkanvader for most of the afternoon with it all back out & set up again can play some of the other stuff too.

Seems Ega P on Taito's twitter channel is already on twitter beginning to gear up for a Volume 4 of arcade memories he sent out another wave of requests asking everyone what titles they would want to see in the next volume. Glad to see they are already starting the next one but no idea when it'll be ready maybe xmas this year? While i know a bunch of Taito games there's a hell of a lot i don't that i have never played so i have no idea what everyones been asking for this round. I know previous rounds chase HQ keeps coming up but not sure they would be able to pull that off without a wheel controller. Personally still holding out for the original rainbow islands, i mean i'm kind of satisfied now as i can play it on switch via Taito memories vol 3 but it would be nice to have the whole family in one place.

Over the weekend i gave Vol 3 a hammering finally enjoyed a lot of the new ones i have never played before. Completed Akkanvader again but if i had spent credits trying to complete this one in a real arcade i'd have probably spent enough to buy another egret II mini the game is hard as hell on the last few stages i'm diying like every few seconds Dr Toppel tankentai was a nice surprise as i have never heard of that one visually it makes me think of Segas fantasy zone it's a nice little shooter although another i need practice on as i'm bleeding credits. Mr Do is another i have a lot of playtime on, there used to be a greasy spoon cafe right in the heart of chapeltown that unless you lived there you'd never find as it was super well hidden in the back they had a mini arcade setup of about 7 cabs lined up & mr Do was one of the games in there, even now if i can get to stage 10 i'm doing well as eventually i can't outrun the monsters and start dying all the time it's one i'm happy to see on the egret.

Galactic storm is another fun one, managed to get a few stages in before i popped a save state so i could have my tea will be going back to this later this week when i have the time. Love all the sprite scaling. Only one in this vol that i found a bit dull is top landing, i mean i can see why if you were in the arcades in Japan back when this was released it probably was impressive but landing planes not really for me then again the football game and quiz games in previous volumes not my cup of tea either but thankfully there's a nice mix of ones i know ones i don't know but end up been fun and a few odd ones out.

                Roll on vol 4

Lol I’d have to live inside them all I’d have nowhere to move around lol never even remotely attempt a switch full set. Compared to some people’s crazy switch collections mines not reached too crazy yet so far my switch save cloud thingy says I have currently 585 games but I have at least 60 digital games so 525 physicals. It does hold the current record for system with most games in my collection with DS I had to dredge the sea of shovelware through all regions to find the last few gems and even doing that I barely made it past 400 with switch I have barely begun digging deep and going through absolutely every release looking for all the ones I have missed but I’ll be actively trying to grab certain stuff now before they go out of print.

But in all seriousness, it’s great to see a curated collection. Fulls sets are just silly.

Switch full set would be grim, especially if you included all the grim Download Code Only kids shovelware they sell at places like B&M. Handing over your wages to acquire non-physical copies of “Nice Puppy Challenge 3” and “Horse Party Games”.

Nice Puppy Challenge 2 was fantastic to be fair, but I think they jumped the shark with the third instalment.

You really need to be using a stick or ideally hitbox for the third one to accurately pet the puppies. That’s probably where you went wrong.

My stroking technique was never really on point, if I'm being honest.
