We'll likely be there come the post about Rage Racer, which is just as bad as RRT4.

Unquestionably the definitive version of the original RR.

Splices the best bits of RR and RR2 perfectly as well as adding inspired refinements (LAN multiplayer, hidden cars, etc.).
I think whether people agree or not will depend on whether they played it link up BITD.

Personally I wholeheartedly concur - link up mode alone (especially with wheels/pedals) was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. The other additions were just a bonus.

Yeah still play the OG a fair bit, it just looks sounds and feels amazing.was lucky to have the full scale down in pompey, tho it was a bit **** to play heh.

Genuinely havn't bought a Sony console since PS3 as no Ridge Racer at launch.

Special shout outs to RRR and RR7.

        Type 4 is lame.

          I can totally understand that.

PlayStation launches just aren't the same without a Ridge Racer game to accompany.

Yeah; like Crash Bandicoot it's definitely one of those brands I'll associate with Playstation, no matter how many titles appear on other platforms.

Me neither. Nothing’s going to compare to getting an early PSP and playing RR on it exclusively for about six years until the Tactics Ogre remaster came along. Not even importing RR6 for the 360, so I gave up trying after that one and didn’t even bother with a PS3.

I know we're not there in the thread yet but whatevs. I hadn't played a Ridge Racer until someone in the office got an import PSP and it blew my face off. Waking it up from sleep and instantly seeing an amazing looking 3D game on a handheld was amazing.

Immediately ordered one and a copy of Ridge Racer. Superb game. Amazing game still play it occasionally now.

Imported RR6 for the 360 and loved that. Gorgeous menu presentation and sublime arcade handling. Got RR7 a couple of years ago and had a cracking time with it.

I really want a RR on modern consoles. A straight port or backwards compatibility would be fine. I just want one at my fingers tips ready to go on every platform.

You guys will eat the main course, after pudding, then have soup!

                  You must wait!

Wait, why were you guys importing Ridge 6? It was a launch game for the 360 in the UK.

You're not in the minority on that, I'm sure. Seeing Ridge Racers run on a PSP for the very first time prompted me to do the exact same thing (RIP LIk-Sang). It looked like handheld gaming had arrived from the future...until the PSP flattered to deceive on the whole, but that's another conversation altogether.

I even went as far as to purchase the sequel Ridge Racers 2 and the soundtrack CDs for them both.

The thought of acquiring another PSP occasionally crosses my mind and the Ridge Racers games are a big part of that.

It came out one or two months after launch in the US then another one or two months after that in the UK. Same with DOA4.

Edit: just checked. Nov 22 in the US, Jan 20 in the UK

Right you are! I forgot that I got my 360 in Jan, not at launch. So the game had already released by then. I’ve always (incorrectly) thought of it as a launch game.

It was a great little launch period for the first few months. Some cracking launch games, RR6 just after, DOA4 after that then in March it was GRAW and Oblivion. Every console since then has struggled to have as good a launch line up and then have consistent releases for the next few months.

Ridge Racer, still so supreme in terms of gameplay and has my favourite track in gaming.

Revolution was better perhaps but more frustrating. But it had more! Tbh it would be the ideal version of the original track was available outside of link mode. Shame.

Shame Rave was missed out and it was its own thing!

This seems an appropriate place to point out that the PS1 version of Ridge Racer appears to be 99% accurately running on the MiSTER FPGA system. Few glitches still but they'll get sorted soonish by the look of it (Saturn core coming along well too!).
