CCIV: Game of the Year 1997 Round Nine

We're reaching the end of the 1997 hunt and looking likely to have another high profile final. But can any of these late additions make the cut?


Which of the above games are amongst the best of 1997 and why?

There's probably 4 or so games I have distinct memories attached to but I'd stop short of calling them the best on offer so no votes for me this round

I feel like, had I played it, Ultima Online would have won out, but I didnt so Worms 2 takes the top spot.

Absolutely love Winter Heat. Great multi-player events and loads of Sega charm.

worms 2, unbelievably good hotseating on my PC with mates, editing all our teams with new sound effects.

Ultima online... probably should win the year for what it did to me and many others, which was set me on path to mmorpg ruin.

and my number one, the first of AKI's N64 wrestling games, western port of VPW64(also on the list) WCW vs NWO, such a step above every other 3D wrestling game in gameplay and looks, while custom wrestler mode wouldn't come till the next year with wrestlemania, only games at the time that played on par where Fire Pro PX on the snes which i played on emulation, and i would play much later Fire Pro 6MS and Giant Gram on the saturn. Yukes NJPW:tr2 was alright but the standout in the series, TR3 wouldn't be out till much later which i would get on import for the psone.

WCW vs NWO Revenge was amazing. I didn't care about wrestling and still don't, but I spent months going over to a mate's house and playing that with his brother and another friend.
