CCIV: Game of the Year 1999 Round Five

We approach the mid-point of 1999 and so far it seems like the heavy hitting nature of the previous few years is lacking from the line up. Can the upcoming rounds change that?

Which of the above games is amongst the best of 1999 and why?

Le Mans 24 Hours on Dreamcast What a stunner and great to play. I tried doing an actual 24h our race once but didn't last long.

LMA manager was great too for a console football management game.

Looking through the lists so far I can tell my interest in console games tailed off somewhat around the millennium. I’ve hardly played anything that released in 1999 so far. I’ve chosen KoF99, but this is definitely a bit of a blank period where I just hammered Championship Manager and played a few bootleg games on my chipped PS1.

Another vote for Soul Reaver. It's been somewhat reassessed since, but it was very underrated at the time. I would honestly put it in the top 5 or so games on PS1, and certainly top 3 in terms of technical achievements (the game did numerous things uncommonly well for the PS1 game).

EDIT: Also Ozar Midrashim is, as the kids say, an absolute banger:

None again for me with 1999 proving to be something of a wash out for me. Have to add, always found the 'appreciation' Jet Force Gemini had at times to be wholly underserved, like having a circle of Rare fans desperate to stand out for picking it. Easily their worst N64 effort.

Legacy of Kain had some great ideas like throwing a box in the air, changing to your other form where the box freezes in place and you create a makeshift platform to reach higher areas.

For me, though, it was Kingpin: Life of Crime.
This was a pretty seedy FPS game, but totally engaging and felt like you were in this world run by the underground.
I also remember there being a mod called "nude bitch" where the women were naked.
No, I didn't download it, but it made me cringe that other people would and somebody spent time making it.

That Ghosts and Goblins looks mint!
