To be clear, Nu-Eclipse - and I should've taken more time to explain what I meant, as I can see how my phrasing was ambiguous.

I wasn't trying to say "the fact the GBC's screen gets replaced is proof it was bad".

What I meant to say was "I can't find a photo of the GBC screen online which matches how I remember the screen, because all the pictures online either have a replaced screen, a bright light or use the flash". I had to scroll through multiple pages to get that example above.

First off, I didn't say new tech so don't try to twist my words. I said new screen refitting.

Secondly...you're on the internet, no? Google is your friend. Try using it!

That's genuinely your take from my words? Really??

If you're too dumb for basic comprehension then just say that.

Me too! Hence why I post in here about anniversaries of moments in gaming that I like and even love, and then happily debate about said moments.

Just a shame that certain people have to try and be bellends about what I post when there's really no need for it.

I see your POV. I had a Game Gear first and the screen was exceptional for the time.

I remember saving up for the GBC with Pokemon and soon after getting Zelda: DX and I vividly remember how bad the screen was: Not backlit, dull and the colours seemed almost monochrome. Nintendo pulled the same trick with the GBA, it was only with the GBA:SP you could finally see how sharp those games looked.

Man, the GBA: SP was a lovely little console. For me, the GameGear was a far bettter console with better games than the GB & the GBC but my god, the GBA: SP has such an amazing lineup. Probably the best hand held ever? Advance Wars, portable Doom, Wario Ware and Metroid Fusion?

Ah, fond memories. Cramped fingers. Dull non-backlit screen. Plumber jumping on a mushroom. Tilting the screen to catch the right sunlight to see the action when on the bus. Bus turns a corner. Nooo!!!

I also had a Game Gear first console I ever owned. Birthday gift with Wonder Boy and Castle of Illusion. Fond memories of that thing.

The Game Gear was really cool. I borrowed one from a mate and the screen and graphics were amazing compared to my GB Pocket (and of course by that stage the GG was already some years old).

But when you've got to beg your Mum and Dad for every new set of batteries, it was impractical to use it unless anchored to the wall socket. And it was kind of ridiculously huge for kid-sized hands, too.

Nintendo def made the right call by deliberately compromising on processing power and screen quality. To those who want an ultra powered Switch 2 Pro Deluxe with all the RTX 4090 trimmings - folks, they didn't do it in 1989, and they ain't gonna do it in 2024 either. And with good reason.

I'm not gonna lie, the SNES was my system of the 16-bit era, but I did buy an MD later in it's life for the cool games that Sega did what Nintendon't.

Bought another (Japanese) one in the 2000's after the death of Sega as we know it and built up a nice collection of games for it. Still didn't convince me it was better than the SNES/SFC, but t'was a great system that I have a lot of respect for.

October 29th (tomorrow) was the MD's Japanese debut...though it is the 29th in Japanese time right now so technically you're correct!

Other than that, I'm in the same boat as you. Lots of respect for the MD/Genesis even though I preferred the SFC/SNES more.

Akumajō Dracula X: Chi no Rondo, better known in the West as Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, was developed and released by Konami for the Super CD-ROM² on the PC Engine in Japan on this day back in 1993.
