yup but I still need to rebuild the search index. its 900,000 posts and it took 4 hours to do 100,000. its a right pain. I tried to do it after opening the forum in the background but it just hammers the database server.
Will need to shut down for a while but will sort it in the new year.

It's weird for me as it doesn't happen all the time but I think perhaps it is a bug - I guess that's why we both flagged it here. Hopefully one of the tech-wizards will be able to magic it all better for us
