Database tracking viewed threads/posts disabled again.

I've changed it from the flakey cookie tracked viewed posts thing to the database tracked version. It accurate but unless you read every thread, you have to press "mark forums as read" when leaving. Is this worse? Or better? I guess it depends on how often you visit.

    Feedback please.

I prefer the old way where it remembered only for 15 mins but I didn't have to press anything

I prefer this new way (need to either read every new thread in a forum, or press "mark forum as read")

The previous method is much better IMO, I'll forget to click a button to say I've read it, and the cookie method worked well for me before

This is much better! There's no need to press buttons to say you've read stuff because if it's still showing as new, then you HAVEN'T read it!

        You'd be a LIAR.

You're not a liar, are you?

            Do we need a poll?

This is better. Much better. The previous system was basically useless as all it basically coudl tell you was "here are a few RECENT threads you haven't looked at. There might be dozens more, slightly older ones you haven't seen either but you'll have to find those yourself".

              Good stuff mate!

Once you've marked all the forums as read, it's pretty good, but till I saw this I was wondering wtf was going on with everything showing as unread.

The old way I would essentially miss scores of posts throughout the day, just because I happened to refresh the forum and then get called away for one reason or another before I could check them all out. This way that never happens, and I have the option to mark everything as read when I want to as well.

This is the one true way.

Apart from the other way which is the other one true way.

Actually, having used it for a bit, it's kind of annoying on a slower messageboard like this. It works on rllmuk 'cause there's so many people that there's always new posts so you just click the sections you want knowing there'll be new stuff there, and all their gaming stuff is in one place. Here though, there's about 15 forums to click through which is a bit clumsy, and you can't rely on the new posts indicator on the left because everything will always have new posts.

Unless you mark them all as read, which isn't really any better than it was!

I think it either needs to go to the old way, or we need to merge some sections and have less, busier forums so there's more posts in one place and less places to click. I prefer the second option tbh.

Where is the poll option for, 'I don't understand the question'?

                        Really, I don't. It's been a long, long day.

I'm going to have to meekly say, no. It probably would, but I don't even understand the basics of the topic.

Is this about threads saying that you haven't read them, when you just have? Has that been fixed up or something?

Yeah. But it changes the behaviour so if you only read a couple of the threads in a forum, the forum still looks unread. So you press "mark as read" when leaving.
