Why I like saying thanks in a post: it bumps the thread so the OP looks in the thread and sees it and knows he is being thanked.Comment

Perhaps not a thanks button, but how about the +1 or the +\- methods.
I'm sure there are plenty of people who just silently read the forum, so it's kind of a nice way for them to interact in silenceComment

I think people here are mature enough to use it properly. However, I think it would make sense to only apply it in relevant forums, like technical services and the wanted items forum. Might give people some encouragement to answer questions, but then again we are all awfully helpful by nature round these parts, aren't we?Comment

I'd be up for some kind of thanks system - sometimes I read something 2 pages ago that was useful/interesting but it's too late to quote and thank, and other times a post just deserves some recognition but not necessarily quoting/a written response.Comment
