I think narratively I'm quite pleased that happened, because it's ludicrous that Dexter always gets away scot free. However, on a personal level – particularly for Rita (Dexter's used to dealing in death) – I find this absolutely devastating. What she must have gone through; horrible.

The whole show, she's been the one causing diversions and putting him off. Her character was written to come across as whining, but was actually very realistic - we / the audience didn't necessarily like her because she kinda got in Dexter's way. They kept playing the, "Dexter, leave her!" card, opening up possibilities in the audience's mind.

And then they go and do that!

When the episode was ending, before the final reveal, I was thinking, "OK here we go - everything back to normal. That's a shame. Normal End Of Season Dexter Music, usual Dexter denouement, he's justifying his actions and again there are no real consequences. It's a real shame they've not shaken **** up.

And then they did

What I hope is the consequences of this season go beyond the, "Dexter lumbered with kid" it could become. I want to see Trinity's family bring up the Kyle character and Dexter get asked questions about it.

I also want Deb to find out about him, but that's not likely. In the first season I had this wonderful thought that she knew what he was, and would use his first hand knowledge to help catch other killers, while letting him get away with it....

It's kind of going in that direction, what with deb finding out they Ice Truck Killer and Dexter are brothers etc. It seems to be the beginning of the end, which is a shame.

Such a brilliant show and has jumped up there with Sopranos with pure love for the characters.

Great finale, mate told me about the ending before I'd seen it, twat, totally spoilt it, but with three minutes to go I thought he was telling porkies. Can't wait to see where the show goes from here.

Don't know if any Dexter fans have seen Oz season four, LaGuerta and Batista star in that together from 2001. Useless bit of info I know but I felt the need to share it!

Very bleak indeed.

As for Deb knowing, she kind of knows in the books (halfway through the 3rd) and she uses Dexter to figure out other killers.

Californication's finale was hardly a barrel of laughs either so I'm kind of bummed out now!

Cool. That's definitely that way I'd take things. Opens up some interesting avenues.

Maybe that will be the big reveal end of next season?
