Ripley does get back to Earth in Alien 4, along with Winona - they land just outside a post-apocalyptic Paris. I watched the Quadrilogy a couple of weekends back so that may have been the director's cut.
Oh and yeah, the huge ship in Alien is from an entirely different species. I don't know why people don't get that - the fossilised pilot has broken ribs from his own chest-burster, plus before they crashed and died they sent out a warning signal. That's what attracted the humans in the first place (realised it was a warning but went anyway because of the profit in xeno artifacts).

If there is an Alien 5 it has to be on Earth and it has to be Ripley (who by then is half-Alien) and maybe Winona (a rogue android). It's probably too expensive to be made.

I try not to think of Resurrection as an Alien film. It's even more of an insult to the series than Aliens vs Predator in my opinion (

making Ripley's clone half-alien, the half-alien/half-human hybrid, wtf were they thinking?

      )

Y' know, 'Abbot and Costello meet Frankenstein' is largely regarded as one of the greatest entrys in Universal's Frankenstein series, after some of the dodgey monster team up sequels.

Personally I share this opinion and think does a good job meshing period comedy w/ the horror genre.
Among other things it is distinguished as being Lugosi's second and final ever outing as Dracula.

I've often thought of AvP as being sort of a modern 'King Kong vs. Godzilla', though not as good. It's worth a look just to see two famous monsters fight each other, but not much else.
I liked Alien Resurrection though. I thought bringng back Ripley as a clone with some alien attributes was a nice idea - the creatures have been part of her life for so long, and now she's practically one of them. The Hybrid reminded me of Frankenstein's monster in some ways - he's a tragic beast who can't help being what he is. I actually felt sorry for the thing at the end of the film, especially after the "why?" look he gives Ripley before he dies.
As for Weaver being too old for the role, I reckon she could still do it. If Harrison Ford can do another Indiana Jones flick, then maybe she could come back for another go.

My main problem with Resurrection, other than the fact that it doesn't attempt to distinguish itself from any other cheesy hollywood action movie, is that it's not just the case that Ripley is not the REAL Ripley, shes been replaced by some wisearse hard nut character, who I couldn't give two ****s about. It's hard to feel anything at all for her, and its definately not the same person who struggled though the first three films, why would anyone want to see this Ripley return to earth?

Maybe she could lead the Alien invasion force?

                Evil Ripley.

Obviously Ripley has to be in it.

After the influence she had over how women's roles are portrayed in Hollywood, maybe she could team up with Clint Eastwood and change people perceptions of old age pensioners?

I think she's still hot...although after Ressurection I'm a little scared of her.

That's not as bad as what they did in alien 3. They used puppets and then CGI'd over them...I mean what kind of retarded way is that to do special effects?!

Not full sized things, proper puppets like kermit (sticks on limbs) shot on a blue screen, slapped into a computer and touched up with CGI, and then placed in the filmed footage.

For quite some time, prior to the steaming pile of **** that was AvP ever rolling off the conveyor, Ridley Scott repeatedly expressed wishes to delve into the roots and history of the Alien species.

Personally i think a Casino Royale style 'reboot' on the series should be done in a few years time once the license has chilled out a bit. Ignor what W.S. Anderson did to it... Go back to Geiger and Scott (and O'Bannon if he will) and get the **** together and redevelop the franchise.

It has been widely known (among Aliens geeks like me) that the ship in the first film was from another race and the species was developed as a bio-weapon, something went wrong (the Space Jockey got fudged) and the ship crashed.

Personally I feel the key elements to the Aliens franchise are:
                            The Alien (singular idealy)
                            Ripley
                            The Company

Although Alien Reserection isn't a 'bad film' it still ****s the franchise royally but ****ing with the time-line and removing The Company from the equation. Leaving a bastardised Ripley and the piss poor concept of the 'New Born'... oh my.

I can't belive they let Anderson do to The Company what he did, an American 'Weyland' who looks like Bishop.... For god's sake, Weyland Yutani is an Anglo-Japanese conglomorate. And him looking like Bishop totally narfed the idea of the 'real Bishop' at the end of Alien 3 (yes he was human, note the red blood)

I liked Alien 3 but it was fundamentally broken due to it's development, if you haven't seen it already i STRONGLY recomend picking up the Quadrilology box set and watching the extended cut and the special features to get the full picture..

                            /rant mode off

Thats a good point to do with the AvP film, I dont think that he actually paid any attention to the other films. What a plonker.

And even though that quadrilogy set has that 4th film in, which could make a pretty coaster. its worth buying as its very cheap now.

I don't think he was human. He's twated with a wrench and his ear is hanging off, if he's not an android he's ****ing hard! Plus Lance Henrickson is credited as "Bishop II". It could just be he's a later model and they died his milk/blood red

However, according to some the 2004 film Alien vs. Predator settled the question by casting Lance Henriksen as Charles Bishop Weyland, CEO of the Weyland Corporation, suggesting that the Bishop android series (including Bishop II) were created in the image of the founder of one of Weyland-Yutani's parent companies. While Lance Henriksen had declared that Bishop II was human in the commentary for Alien?, he later went on record, along with AVP director Paul W. S. Anderson, to clear up the matter, stating that Bishop II was an android.
