Well everyone seems to be ignoring the fact that its Robert Downey Jr playing Tony Starks... and the last film I saw with him in was The Shaggy Dog, so I'm reserving judgement on this one

One swallow does not a summer make, there's lots of actors who have appeared in complete guff so I don't see your point.

Beside Downey's a really good actor. If he hadn't screwed himself over so badly then he could have been up there with the best and had a totally different career.

I think Jon Favreau knows that and that's why he had to fight all the way to make sure that Downey was in the role (partly because he knew the fans wanted him there).

From the trailer I've seen nothing to suggest that Downey's going to screw this up and he looks perfect for the role of Stark (in both appearance and attitude).

Thankfully the kids seem to have nothing to do with this one. Favreau's a big comic book geek and an Iron Man fan. From what I've seen so far that just shines through.

He's said the whole way that he's making a film for the fans and has listened to them throughout. I don't doubt that not having to appease dimwitted studio execs has contributed to this film turning out much better than it otherwise would have been.

I'm with Spatial101 on this, great choice of actor for the role, he brings a kind of drunken eccentricity to it that makes his actions alot more believeable, than if say Tom Cruise was playing the part. I think it will be really interesting seeing him change from the carefree egomaniac rockstar into somebody who has decided to take responsabilty and make a difference. Hope some of his personality comes through when he is in the suit instead of it seeming like a completely different character - as my girlfriend commented on earlier.

The end bit of that trailer is so good though, can't stop watching it >_< Gonna have to brush up on my Iron Man, anybody recommend me any Graphic Novels I should read?

Probably any of his new series should be good.

Iron Man: Director of Shield is good. It's up to issue 28 I think?

. The problem is, Iron Man is pretty much everywhere in the Marvel Universe at the moment. (He's currently in 19 of the titles that I buy of 30 almost every month.).

He's also got a brand new series out starting in May called the Inivincile Iron Man that's supposed to go hand in hand with the film, so that should give you the info you need. It's being launched as a new ongoing but very "newbie friendly".

Awesome, thanks man, I'll check out Iron Man: Director of Shield and have a hunt around in my local comic shop (or get a sub set up through FP).

If you want more of the origin stuff then I'd recommend something like the Essential Iron Man or Omnibus edition graphic novels.

Also Demon in a Bottle is a recommended read (Tony Stark battles with being a drunk) and the Armor Wars series (Stark get's pissed about people using his suit tech and decided to take them all down).

Those two sound very interesting - will hunt them down. Thanks Spatial.

No the other one is Ironmonger. Basically (minor film spoilers)

Obediah Stane (Jeff Bridges) is a businesses rival of Stark who nicks his technology to take him on.

Warmachine is Jim Rhodes (played by Terrence Howard in the film) who is Stark's friend and stood in for him as Iron Man when Stark was battling with drink.

Warmachine's not in this film (at least I think he isn't) but will probably be in a sequel.

Dude, don't pay the comic shop prices for Graphic Novels, they're way too expensive!

This is probably the best/cheapest way to get the origins and info on him:

It's a black and white omnibus reprinting the first 25 I think issues of his origin.

Also, for his most recent going-ons I'd recommend that new Invincible Iron man book that starts in May.

After looking through some of his current solo series (Director of ShIELD) it's got a lot of tie-ins to lots of things that have happened previously so unless you're a Marvel follower, it might leave you a tad confused.

I don't really follow Iron man and am a little behind in my reading but I really grow to like Iron man in Stracynski's recent run of Amazing Spiderman as he takes Parker under his wing after he signs up for the New Avengers. I so want to see some of the things that happened in the Civil War arc on screen, though I know that will probably never happen.

o.O? Recent? That was 3 years ago when he joined the NA :P

I know what you mean about Stracynski's recent work with Spiderman, it was brilliant.
