Seems like i have had a comedy week, started off with Walk Hard which was ok had some funny moment but to me not a classic, and have literally just watched Hot Rod (FINALLY!) laughed my arse off with that one, it was just silly but really funny. His dancing in the woods bit had me in stitches, the 80's soundtrack was quality, the bit with "You're The Voice" (a classic song!) and the montage was great.
"Started off pretty motivational I thought."

Watched The Lives of Others (Das Leben der Anderen) last night on a recommendation, and it was superb. A shocking account of life in East Germany around 1984, superbly acted and very tense, with a stunning performance from Ulrich Mühe as a Stasi (secret police) Captain.

There was an excellent BBC documentary about Werner Herzog on the tele a few nights ago, which gave me the urge to give Grizzly Man another watch. Fascinating film. If anyone hasn't seen it, do yourself a favour and do so. It doesn't happen often, maybe just a few times in your life, but the first time I saw Grizzly Man I had what I call a Eureka moment - sounds awfully poncy, but I found it to be an enlightening experience. I don't mean in a religious way, just a perspective, really - a worldview that connected with me on some level. Incredibly powerful film. Kind of funny, too, in its absurdity. How it wasn't nominated for an Oscar I'll never know.

It was part of the Imagine series, entitled Werner Herzog: Beyond Reason. You're in luck. It's still available to watch on the Beeb's iPlayer -

What's the thing with Werner Herzog being so popular? I don't know anything about him but I hear the name often.

                        Very talented and demanding director, and only one who managed to successfully shoot many movies with Klaus Kinski. Has more than few screws loose, but this tend to be norm with successful documentarists. Highlights in the career include;

                        - Aguirre: Wrath of God
                        - The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser
                        - Cobra Verde
                        - Fitzcaraldo
                        - Nosferatu the Vampyre
                        - Stroszek
                        - Woyzcek

Anchor Bay has done excellent collection of his more popular works, and it sold in Play.com for 20 euros or so.

Rescue Dawn is a cracking film too, by Werner Herzog. Starring Christian Bale, based on a true story - Blurb from the film: 'A US Fighter pilot's epic struggle of survival after being shot down on a mission over Laos during the Vietnam War'

I missed that Doc' as well off to the I-Player.

Get out a bit more ;P

This week I'm watched the stunning "Stardust", just recently finished the book and felt like watching the film again. It really is great and I love all the changes made for the film from the source material. great stuff.

Lastnight was the confused Resident Evil Extinction. Think Mad Max with zombies and you wouldn't be far wrong, in fact it would be a much better movie if they had stuck with that theme.

I haven't seen it, but from what I heard, Herzog serious changes on the background. I.e. in reality, the escape was planned by other inmates, and Dieter (correct name?) just took advantage of it.
