The Otto bit in the last episode was one of the greatest moments in Simpsons history. The rest of the episode...

Disappointed that the cast didn't go on a mental drug-fuelled binge with pornstars until their demands were met.

I think it's a shame that Fox won't let have a fraction of profits from the show - chances are you could replace animators and writing staff (which has probably happened at least once throughout the show's history) but change the voice cast and you lose the show.

There are so many reasons why I won't go near the early seasons of the show, and the voices (despite being the same actors) are one of the biggest - I can only tolerate so much of early nineties Julie Kavner's monotone drawl before my ears fail on me! I can happily listen to her now, but if they got in a sound-alike to replace her, God help us all!

I watched some (I assume) fairly new episodes recently, they were beyond awful. It was like they had realised family guy had taken their thunder and they were trying to outdo it. Pathetic.

No good since about season 10. So many problems since then.

I think the last new Simpsons I saw was the movie. With audiences down, you'd think they'd decide to call it a day and give it a big finish. I'm sure they're still making a ton of money, of course, but it would be a shame if it just fizzled out to nothing and got cancelled eventually while nobody cared.

Simpsons isn't about audiences, it never has been, it's about merchandise, and they still do massive business in that.

And they don't need any new episodes for that. The show will be rerun for probably our whole lifetime even if they never make another episode. If anything, running it into the ground will have more of a negative effect on merch and licensing than stopping when they're doing well.

True, but I guess it's easier to sell stuff when there's new episodes coming out. Saying that, it is true that there are probably enough episodes at this point that people haven't seen. 21-year-olds weren't even alive when The Simpsons proper started.

                      21!

In other Simpsons news, does everyone follow the official Yugoslavian Bart Simson twitter account? It's basically incredible but I haven't got the faintest idea why.

Seinfled still earns the creators huge, stupid amounts of money due to syndicated repeats and also because it never became totally crap, they finished it before that happened.

Fox are planning to launch a channel devoted entirely to Simpsons repeats. I despair.

                            That's debatable

I haven't watched it for years (Seinfeld), but I do have the huge boxset which I'll watch if I don't sell it, and I remember it become more and more silly after Larry David left, but it was never terrible. At the time it was still quite enjoyable, when the last couple of seasons aired.

Just how bad has it got?

Have not watched an episode since the Gervais debacle, saw the movie and maybe laughed once.
