Without sounding disrespectful, I can't see him going down in history as a big player in american cinema,

He got worse as he got older, but Sixteen Candles, Ferris, Planes Trains, and the breakfast club are classics.
He took to many high paying writing jobs and that let him down

        loved stacks of his movies

after watching that youtube video o wondered why it only concentrated on around 8 of his movies, i thought he had directed more and after checking they are the only ones he directed, he seemed to produce and write loads of others

personal favourite's being Baby's day out and Some kind of Wonderful

        @ Evilboris
i think it depends when you started to watch his movies and how old you were when you watched them, i rate him highly and is one of my favourite directors (only 2nd to John Carpenter), i was between the ages of 12 - 17 when all the classics where coming out

i was only 13 when i saw Kelly le brock in all her glory, i even managed to get to the cinema to see it, very happy considering it was a 15 and my bumfluff didn't give me away

the 1st 15 rated movie i managed to get into, the second being down and out in beverly hills

I love all of his Brat Pack stuff, Breakfast Club being my absolute favourite.

Such a shame he died relatively young.

If you were of a certain age then he will be missed.

Indeed, it's a sad loss. I've been through or near many of the locations he'd filmed as Kris (a good US friend of mine) lives not so far from where he did.

I think 'classics' is stretching it a bit far. I have fond memories of those films (except PTaA which i think is a bit pap), but they don't really stand up today unless you enjoyed them as a kid. I watched Wierd Science the other day and was surprised at how slow moving it was. In my mind it was a fast, wild ride.

He did have a talent for knowing what the younger generation enjoyed.

Ferris Bueller is 100% a classic. It stands up today as much as it ever did too.

You have just shown one of favourite clips off all time. Remember when Steve Martin was funny?
