Awesome, thanks. Will check that out later as I might have a night in a hotel by myself on Thursday night.

Just a quick question - does Blu-Ray pretty much ignore any PAL or NTSC standards? It goes beyond those, doesn't it? Is there a picture/frame rate difference between a US Blu-Ray and European Blu-Ray?

PAL and NTSC are standard-def (more properly called "525/60" and "625/50" since we are in the digital world). You can have both of those on Blu-ray (for example, SD bonus features).

With HD content, you can have 23.976fps, 24fps, 25fps, or 29.97fps. Almost all discs are 23.976fps worldwide, as they should be.

So: no, a film on Blu-ray will play at the same speed regardless of whether it's bought in the US or the UK (with a few exceptions).

          Thanks Lyris. Much appreciated.

Oh, one other thing to add with BD frame rates.

Players sold in the 60hz countries don't have to play back 50hz material (some do anyway, like the Oppo). Most US players won't play the 50hz parts at all (probably manufacturers intentionally disabling this for political reasons). If you feed them a disc with 50hz content, they react differently: some skip over the 50hz portion, others freeze up.

This is potentially an issue if you have a US machine, want to play a Region Free UK disc, and they've encoded the opening studio logo at 50hz, preventing you from getting past it...

Looking to import Pulp Fiction BR as for some reason a UK release is being held up (why?)
I'm confused as to which version to get as it's been released in several European countries/versions. Anybody explain it to me and point me in the right direction please? Or should I wait for a Uk version whenever that may be?
              Thanks.

Why is this thread in the "Nintendo Download services" or am I just going crazy?

                  Crazyness, fixed.

Watched District 9 last night and I thought it looked excellent. Started watching the Criterion Collection's The Seventh Seal today and that's very impressive as well. In fact if you have access to a region A player I heartily recommend collecting them, as every one I have watched so far has been brilliant.

Thanks, the Australian version is the one to get then?

Wouldn't the UK version be censored anyway?
Maybe that's the reason it's held up?

                            Really? Why?

The film's always been censored in the UK:

I always check the BBFC site before I go near a UK DVD/BD - edits are rare, but when I do get hit by a "sanitized for your eyes by government-funded censors" version, I feel like an absolute twat for buying it!

Apparently the Aus release is 1080i/50hz, so might be worth hanging in there a little longer.
