Yep. Same but it's not a terrible price per movie and Criterion always do these with love. But yeah, it's "Christmas gift" expensive rather than priced at "I'm going to buy this myself". Adding to my Christmas list along with the Batman Beyond collection.

Indeed. It’s not a bad price for all those blu-rays. Yet for some reason that didn’t click in my head. It meant that when I saw the price, my guts prolapsed. I shouldn’t have been surprised, it’s unreasonable to be surprised, and yet, due to my own lack of foresight, I was. I’d spend 100 on it for myself, but not double that.
Finally got a copy of The Art of Japanese Monsters by Sean Linkenback.
It covers Godzilla, Gamera, Daimajin and a host of other Asian flicks. Featured are posters and lobby cards for each film, including several Japanese variants, American, Thai, UK, and, where found, Turkish, Yugoslav, Spanish, Italian, French and German releases.
It’s a lavish work featuring beautiful images. You really get a sense that, for the same film, different territories emphasise different key actors, images and words to appeal to their audiences. Fascinating stuff, and almost like a shopping catalogue for my next 30 years. I saw the original Godzilla poster on eBay for 10 grand recently. That may be tricky!
I’ve been after it for a while. The hardback is selling for hundreds and has about 40 more pages than this version. That’s because the author promised his crowdfunders they would have unique coverage. When he released people were profiteering, he released a softback for less money, but with a few pages missing. I’ve got the softback. It would cost 90 dollars from America - plus customs duty. I found a person selling it in Thailand, paid $48 to have it delivered to someone I trust, then $20 to have it sent to me. That’s $68 with no customs fees. Worth it, plus it’s signed.
