This is horrific news. Wow. Leslie Nielson is a comedy god and also in one my favourite sci-fi movies of all time. This sucks. Comedy just lost one of its greats.

He was awesome. Airplane, Poilce squad and the Naked Gun were brilliant.

Naked Gun is just a masterpiece or comedy, takes the police sqaud show to another level, cant believe there was only ever 6 episodes either....

This one is gutting, he was pure legend through and through. Most of the episodes I watched of Due South were just to see if he's crop up in them

A real legend. Really sad news indeed. Loved the man.

Sad news . Police Squad was far too good to be American comedy.

First I've heard of this as well but it's good to see so many people who appreciate the comedy genius he was as so much comedy which is meant to be good just seems to fall flat for me. I was flicking through the Sky channels the other week and caught the start of one of the Naked Gun films and ended up watching it through to the end as it's still brilliant no matter how many times I've seen it and then also watched the other two that week. Only a couple of weeks later I did exactly the same, not intending to watch all of them but couldn't turn away.

Mayor: Oh, Drebin. I don't want any trouble like you had last year on the south side. Understand? That's my policy.
Frank: Yes, well when I see five weirdo's dressed in togas stabbing a guy in the middle of the park in full view of a hundred people, I shoot the bastards, that's my policy.
Mayor: That was a Shakespeare in the park production of "Julius Caesar" you moron! You killed five actors, good ones!

Ah, a top notch comedy actor.
Now who are we left with? Adam "Creepy" Sandler?

Real shame, he wasn't exactly young though so not that unexpected but a nasty way to go.

I first remember watching him when I was in hospital as a kid and their video library seemed to consist solely of his comedies. I forced all the other kids to watch them and a couple of the kids didn't make it...possibly due to all the laughing!

My favourite film with him was Forbidden Planet which I've watched a couple of times recently. Brilliant film and great acting from him and others.

Like others have said also, its the sign of a great when he was in some terrible films but I can't remember ever seeing him personally being less than great in anything.

Big shame. Like many I enjoyed even his poorer films. He was always funny himself.

He wasn't young, but he sure seemed it. I was surprised to hear the guy was in his 80s.

Edit: I also had no idea he was Canadian, incidentally - not that where he was from actually matters though!
