Can anyone identify this horror movie from my rubbish description!?

    Howdy ladies and gents,

I've got a request to find a film that's been bugging me for years. Having started a PhD focusing on horror movies/video nasties I would have thought I would have, at some point, come across it again but so far no dice.

When I was young - although my parents refused to let me watch 15/18 rated movies before that age - I caught a sneak peak of a pretty gruesome horror, somewhere around 1985ish (at a guess, could have been slightly later). So would assume it to be a video nasty - although I know the banned list fairly comprehensively for around the late 70's/early-80s and nothing rings a bell.

I thought it was Terror Train at first but now not so sure. I remember two scenes very clearly. One is where a woman is sleeping in bed and someone drips liquid through a tube via the ventilation system above her. From here I think crickets/locusts eat her face! Yes it's pretty grim as I remember.

The other scene is men dressed as the Queen's guards marching with white eyes - I think they are on a railway carriage, hence my Terror Train guess. It's definitely not this though as the IMDB Parent's guide doesn't mention anything like the face eating scene.

This is obviously the most vague description ever, but thought someone might be able to help me out - as it's been bugging me for the best part of thirty years! The liquid-dripping/flesh eating is obviously the scene I remember most vividly (and has since probably scarred me, and potentially why I suffered insomnia for a time ), so if anyone could identify this or take a stab at it (pardon the horror related pun) then that'd satisfy my curiosity.

    Cheers.

There's a film with white-eyed people on a train called Horror Express, but from the scenes you've described it doesn't seem like it's that one.

The Abominable Dr Phibes has a scene involving a nurse getting syrup poured onto her from above, whereby her face is attacked by locusts.

As prinnysquad says, it's definitely The Abominable Dr Phibes for the first (liquid and locusts) description; but there are no white-eyed guards, so that must be a different movie.

Both Dr Phibes films are well worth checking out: Vincent Price at his weird and wonderful best.

^Add in Theatre Of Blood, too. Saw that as a kid late night some Saturday on BBC1, gave me proper nightmares (every time I see a poodle, I get a minor Robert Morley flashback). Even now, though it's clear it's a 'comedy', it's still very horrible, there's an 'edge' about it.

As for the 'train thing', there's a film I never got round to seeing from the mid-80s, Lifeforce. All I know is it's set in London and contains odd-looking, non-Romero zombies....possibly a very long shot here....?

You need to see Lifeforce. It's not the movie described here but you need to see it.

^Convinced. It's 'on the boil' as we speak.

I rewatched Lifeforce a little while back, its safe to say that watching Mathilda May walking naked around the place for most of the movie remains as fantastic now as it was 20-odd+ years ago. Actually that pretty much eliminates any chance of the OPs moving being Lifeforce, as shes not something thats easy to forget.
