Final figures are pending but Terminator Genisys looks to have opened to an overall taking of $129m.
That figure is mostly aided by international takings as the US market continues its T3 and T4 trend of not caring about the franchise anymore. Given the average takings of everything from T1-T4, Skydance must presumably be looking at anything around $400m end total as a win and a full green light to proceed with the planned two sequels. The key eastern markets are staggered over the next full month so this will be a long haul climb to see how the film ultimately does. As it stands, a solid if unshocking opening.
Meanwhile Jurassic World continues to demolish its rivals:
The film has reached $1.385bn meaning that it has shot straight past Avengers 2 in the worldwide takings chart and is now the fifth highest grossing film of all time.
The figure for Fast 7 still hasn't changed so presumably the earlier reports of its move up were incorrect and now Jurassic World will be targetting fourth place. It isn't out the running that this time next week the JP franchise will overtake the original Avengers film and enter the top three highest earning films ever.

The final numbers for the July 4th holiday weekend box-office are in with Disney and Pixar’s “Inside Out” slipping past “Jurassic World” and taking the top spot with $29.8 million, just ahead of the dino sequel with $29.2 million. The news must give the studio a sigh of relief as “Inside Out” was looking to […]
Final figures are in and Inside Out managed to just dodge a bullet and take the US number 1 slot continuing Pixar's unbroken run.

Ant Man is the new US number one, came in at the lower end of the Marvel scale though. They'll be hoping it has lasting power as other sites have it tracking at the same level or slightly behind Incredible Hulk. A bit of its future earnings might rest on how MI5 lands

Universal’s “Jurassic World” has now hit $1.522 billion at the global box office, surpassing Marvel’s “The Avengers” ($1.520 billion) to become the third highest grossing film of all-time worldwide not accounting for inflation. The film has managed a whopping $614.3 million domestically, where it’s still fourth and behind “The Avengers” with $623.4 million – though […]
It's official. Jurassic World has just overtaken Avengers to become the third highest grossing film of all time.

Beating studio estimates by as much as 40%, “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” opened to $56 million in North America which was the third-best domestic opening of a Cruise film for all time behind only “Mission: Impossible II” ($57 million) and “War of the Worlds” ($65 million). The film was even bigger overseas with $65 […]
Mission Impossible scored Cruises third biggest domestic opening yet, Vacation however underperformed by a fairly big margin following poor reviews

When first tracking numbers came in a few weeks ago, 20th Century Fox’s “Fantastic Four” reboot was on track for a $45 million opening weekend – less than the mid $50 million openings of the previous two F4 films but not too shabby. Last week that estimate was downgraded to around $40 million. The flurry […]
Fantastic Four was estimated to take a disappointing $45m this weekend in it's US opening weekend. However, after opening takings from the first day were tallied it's been downgraded further to a disasterous $27m. Apparently it's the worst adaption takings since Ghost Rider 2 and a worse opening day haul than Daredevil twelve years ago. It may even miss entering the US chart in the number 1 slot. Within it's genre it looks set to be the failure of the decade so far and the pre-planned sequel looks set to be scrapped.

The North American weekend box-office estimates are in and 20th Century Fox’s “Fantastic Four” reboot has opened in second place with $26.2 million. ‘Four’ came in behind “Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation” which stood atop the box-office for a second weekend in a row with $29.4 million. That’s a very healthy drop of around 47% […]
FF came in even lower than its lowest estimates

"Straight Outta Compton" may take place more than two decades ago, but its theme still speak to moviegoers living in a post-Ferguson world.
Straight Outta Compton performs well in the US whilst Mission Impossible holds strong internationally. Word of mouth has all but instantly killed Fantastic Four at the big screen and Man from UNCLE has become the next summer casualty

Apparently Terminator Genisys is settling around $325m which puts it low and short of the $400m that was apparently targeted. However, all eyes are now on China where the film is set to open this Sunday. China has delivered massive boosts to many films this year but no US have released over there since Jurassic World so potentially T5 could see the big boost it needs to get T6 and T7 into production. By the end of the month we should have an idea of Genisys is the final entry in the franchise.

4TH UPDATE, MONDAY ACTUALS, 2:50 PM PT: International weekend actuals have rolled in from the studios with a confirmed $27M on the frame’s No. 1 movie, Terminator Genisys. That’s down a touch from Sunday’s projected $27.4M. (Early estimates see Monday doing $10M+.) The whole haul comes from China where the Paramount/Skydance pic debuted yesterday; including […]
Looks like it truly has been the rise of the machines for Terminator Genisys. The film had pretty much come to a halt in terms of earnings and the future of the sixth and seventh final entries in the franchise hung in the balance based on what the eventual China release would add. Common theory was that the film would need to cross the $400m mark to see the further films proceed. Sunday 23rd the film opened and in a single day it earnt the 4th highest US movie gross in the country with $27.4m. The film is now just over $40m from reaching the line it's rumoured to need and with a full opening week now ahead all eyes will be on next weeks tally. If it repeats what happened when Pacific Rim underperformed globally, we're potentially looking very likely to at least get Terminator 6.
