I walk along this lonely strand
At the ebbing of the tide
I have seen this place before
You were walking by my side

It was on this day one year ago
That we came out to Geordie Bay
Long before you closed your eyes
    And your body slipped away

And life was long, love, life was long
Life was long, love, life was long
We had time, love, we had time
For life was long, love, life was long

Now a year has passed and things have changed
Your spirit's returned from whence it came
Still the ocean sounds the same
And the trees whisper your name

And they whisper words you once said to me
"We have time, love, life is long"
So now I walk this path of memories
Reach for your spirit and join you in song

Life is long, love, life is long
Life is long, love, life is long
We have time, love, we have time
Life is long, love, life is long

Had you known when you spoke those words
Your time had come and you'd soon be gone
You may never have spoken so
Still I hear your voice singing...

Life is long, love, life is long
Life is long, love, life is long
We have time, love, we have time
Life is long, love, life is long

    We have time, love
    Life is long
    Life is long, love
    Life is long...

    Beautiful.

      All our times have come
      Here but now they're gone
      Seasons don't fear the reaper
Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain, we can be like they are
Come on baby, don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand, don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly, don't fear the reaper
      Baby I'm your man
      La, la, la, la, la
      La, la, la, la, la
      Valentine is done
      Here but now they're gone
      Romeo and Juliet
Are together in eternity, Romeo and Juliet
40, 000 men and women everyday, Like Romeo and Juliet
40, 000 men and women everyday, Redefine happiness
Another 40, 000 coming everyday, We can be like they are
Come on baby, don't fear the reaper
Baby take my hand, don't fear the reaper
We'll be able to fly, don't fear the reaper
      Baby I'm your man
      La, la, la, la, la
      La, la, la, la, la
      Love of two is one
      Here but now they're gone
Came the last night of sadness
And it was clear she couldn't go on
Then the door was open and the wind appeared
      The candles blew then disappeared
The curtains flew then he appeared, saying don't be afraid
Come on baby, and she had no fear
And she ran to him, then they started to fly
They looked backward and said goodby, she had become like they are
She had taken his hand, she had become like they are
Come on baby, don't fear the reaper

      Classic!

        Bird on the roadside
        Didn't see the headlights
        Fell down from the sky
        And settled here
        No more songs to sing
        The silence is deafening
        I should've seen it coming

        My sworn enemy
        Has his eye on me
So I keep my eye on him

        Through the minor chords
        I am blind towards
        The car he travels in

        Bird on the roadside
        Didn't see the headlights
        Fell down from the sky
        And settled here
        No more songs to sing
        The silence is deafening
        I should've seen it coming

        So I make no vows
        That curves my pillow now
        As my body grows away

        Will you sing your songs?
        Will you still fly on
        Far above my resting place?

        Bird on the roadside
        Didn't see the headlights
        Fell down from the sky
        And settled here
        No more songs to sing
        The silence is deafening
        I should've seen it coming

        Bird on the roadside
        Blue, black and white
        Didn't see the headlights
        And settled here
        No more songs to sing
        The silence is deafening

        Love it.

I reckon I'll go with faith-themed songs today. You dig? Bit of God. Bit of reverence for the Ultimate Source. Bit of unconditional love.

A certain man one day did go down to Jericho
Fallin' among thieves along the way
Well they stripped him then they fled
          Leaving him for dead
Lying on the side of the road

And then the priest came passing by
He crossed over to the other side
Then the Levite came and he did just the same

When the Samaritan heard his cry
He just could not pass on by
He dressed his wounds and he carried to the nearest inn

Well he reached down, he reached down
He got right there on the ground
He reached down, he reached down
          And he touched the pain

He paid the keeper the amount that was due
If you need more he said I'm good for that too
He reached down, he reached down
          And he touched the pain

And then the Scribes in the Pharicese
Brought the adultress in for Jesus to see
Lord, she's sinned, now the law says she must be stoned
If there's a one of you that's without sin
Said you can cast the first stone in
One by one they left, leaving Jesus and the woman alone

Well he reached down, he reached down
He got right there on the ground
He reached down, he reached down
          And he touched the pain

He paid the keeper the amount that was due
If you need more he said I'm good for that too
He reached down, he reached down
          And he touched the pain

I love that song. It tells a good tale and is Biblical in language.

Continuing the religious theme, a song about Islam:

I always loved hearing the adhan (call to prayer) when I was living in the Middle East. It somehow comforted me and I still think it lovely. Such a beautiful, melodic sound.

Makes you wanna become a Muslim, dunnit? Do it. I won't tell anyone. It'll be our little secret.

                    It really doesn’t.

You’re a 50/50 for me Charlie, in some ways our musical tastes are very similar, I’m not on board with this side of your taste though.

I was really please to see Corduroy making music again, so I happily bought the new album after about a decade away.
Pretty cool Acid Jazz to listen to on a sunny morning on the way to work!

Sweet. I didn't know they were doing stuff again. Bought the first two albums but nothing after that.

                            @Atticus (AT-ATticus?!)

The third album, 'Out of Here' is also great with tracks like "Don't Wait for Monday", "Mini" and "Motorhead" (which Lemmy allegedly smashed the record when he heard it!). The whole thing is worth tracking down.
#4, 'The New You' is decent and "Data 70" is one of my fave tracks of theirs (proper 70s chase music).
Their last album, 'Clik!', was a shift away from the Acid Jazz label and the change in sound was a bit bland, if I'm honest, and that was the beginning of the end. V2 dropped their Big Cat label and they split up after that.

There have been copycat bands and the likes of Top Gear still use their music, so there's still a demand for their pretty unique sound.

The new album is pretty good, although I listened to it whilst driving through sun-dappled country lanes with the windows down and a summer breeze in my face. No standouts, particularly, but I can listen to it with the kids in my car, unlike most of my sweary music!
