They tried a TV show with his 'Son' and Eddie did a cameo. He said he didn't want to be a recurring cameo, but the test audiences were so happy with his appearance it killed any chance of a TV show without him.
I guess that kick started the movie.
If it can capture that fun nature of the original then go for it, but in 2022 I don't think it will.

Holy moly. So there's a common phrase about black people and aging. I don't want to repeat it because I wouldn't want to cause offence. But Murphy is 62 years old! He looks amazing.
