Best films to showcase Blu Ray

My blu ray drive is on its way.

What are the best films to pick up that showcase the awesome HD-ness of Blu Ray?

    I'm talking jaw-droppingly stunning!!!!

Transformers 1 (I'm sure parts 2 and 3 are equally if not better sound and pic wise but they just suck too hard)
Most pixer movies, Monsters Inc/University look particularly good to my eyes
Most David Attenborough narrated stuff like Planet Earth and BLue Planet, they are just simply stunning.
The Dark Knight, the opening bank robbery is paticularly nice and grainy
    Inception

If you're cranking out some serious surround sounds then Phantom Menace Pod race is still classically basstasic. Also the Akira fully uncompressed soundtrack on blu ray is one of the best I've heard, it also helps that an amazing anime is bought up to date in stunning fashion pic wise. They'll have to completly restore it for whenever they'll do the 4k version, this is as good as its gonna get until then.

I'm sure Man of Steel is gonna be up there whenever it comes out.

Casino Royale, The Descent, Avatar, The Hobbit, Wall-E(all pixar really), Incredible Hulk, Pulp Fiction, Nightmare Before Christmas, Transformers, Inception, No country for old men, Aliens(because its so much better than expected, given the source), Speed racer, 2001: A Space Odyssey...

      etc etc

I started a similar thread asking people what one disc they would use to show off Blu-Ray to somebody.
It was a couple of years back, so there might be some updates since then:

        Blu-ray - What's your benchmark disc?

I've bought Sunshine, Akira and Moon, which are all good to my eyes, but I'm pretty rubbish at spotting 1080p and 60fps stuff.
I grew up watching badly dubbed kung-fu films!

At the recent Grand Designs Live show, all the home theatre companies were showing either Avatar, Pixar or The Phantom Menace (Pod Race scene).

              I now want a 3D projector...

Avatar 3d and Dredd 3d, no better examples

2D Finding Nemo and the Dark Knight sure stand out along with Oblivion

More or less anything animated (CGI movies especially) is a must to me, the CGI just looks amazing most of the time but a few stand out's for me were...

                      Appleseed: Ex Machina
TMNT (I **** you not...the Raph / Leo fight in the rain looks sweet)
                      Akira
Legend of the Guardians: Owls of Ga'hoole
                      Tin Tin
                      Astro Boy
                      Kung Fu Panda
                      Toy Story 3
                      Nemo
                      Wall.E
                      Up

Live Action stuff I'd go for...

                      Seven
                      Sin City
                      300
                      Thor
                      Captain America
                      Sucker Punch
                      Dredd
                      Matrix
                      Dark Knight

There are tons more but I can't remember off the top of my head & Chloe's asleep so I can't sneak in & turn the lights on for a look at the shelf lol

                      Neil

EDIT - Actually if you need to borrow anything (and I haven't already lent it to FSW) then drop me a PM & I can pop you a few discs in the post if you like?

                        especially in 3d

Disturbingly I found this to be true too, espcially on my 90" projector screen - depressing times

I also remember Sunshine being a decent disc, not necc. reference quality though. Actually that said I think 28 Days Later - despite being intentionally grainy and shot on digital is a good one, possibly for picking out the clarity between blacks in the dark scenes.

Also any of the Iron Man movies are goodies to test.

That would be cool of you, sir.

I've ordered Star Trek Into Darkness and pre ordered Man of Steel.

Dredd 3D... when I get a new tv or monitor this is the first film I'll be watching.

Part of me wants to see this as I'm sure it truly is showcase material, but I've also heard by pretty much everyone it's one of the most depressing films ever.
