      Good choices.

Bit of RATM for me, just a mix CD this time, not an album. I've been trying to listen to quieter music while I revise, helps me concentrate, but I caved. Their cover of '**** the Police' at the mo to be precise, amazing stuff.

unless it's a MASSIVE return to form akin to the second coming of jesus h christ himself i feel i am well within my rights to be a disbeliever.

i shall go and listen to it though. i will return in a week with my thoughts on this comment.

Rufus Wainwright's eponymous debut. Perhaps it's a little too early for camp, Van Dyke Parks-produced showtunery. Then again is there ever a right time?

Ooh, Van Dyke Parks! Only have a :/ version of that, but will chuck it on in a bit, along with Pacific Ocean Blue.

I listened to A Tribe Called Quest on the way into work this morning. It was the People's Instintinctive Travels... album and it's an absolute classic, so chilled out and very funky. I just never get bored of Q-Tip's voice - his is definitely one of the best and most distinctive in rap.

Strawberry Fields Forever and Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds are absolutely wonderful songs.

I dug out 1999 over the weekend too. Excellent stuff for a sunny afternoon.

Eavesdrop - found sound put together by Jacob Smigel. Can't beat distorted 1970s cassette recordings of an old lady telling you how to sell vibrators!

I've borrowed my dad's Beatles collection and am current putting all of their albums on to my iPod. I'm guilty of never really listening to their stuff properly, apart from knowing all the typical tracks.

After this, I'm planning doing the same with The Rolling Stones.

I'm just trying to pick a new band every couple of weeks and immersing myself in their music for that time. Great fun so far.

25 years of rough trade shops. - Nice collection covering 4 years of lots of rough trade stuff - got some of the big names, Cocteau Twins, Sugarcubes, Mazzy Star, Chemical Bros., S.Youth, Boards of Canada, Nick Cave, The Smiths, Joy Division etc. But there's a lot thats completely new to me, some of its brilliant as well. Shame the 4th disc is missing

You can't really go wrong with the Beatles. Let it Be and Beatles for Sale are slightly under par compared with the rest of the catalogue, but when you consider they recorded ten proper albums in only six years (including a double and releasing many singles which do not feature on any album) then the Beatles achievement becomes even more staggering.

I remember when I 'properly' discovered the Beatles. I really envy you. You realise that their best songs are the ones you've never heard before.

Discovering the Stones can be equally brilliant. They are not so consistent, but when they are on form few can touch them. You cannot go wrong with Aftermath, Let it Bleed and Exile on Main Street as starting points.
