Okay, now I'm home and at a keyboard, in two parts:
The General Thought:
So, the best way I could describe it is like it being a film of largely average quality elements that come together to create something greater as a whole. I couldn't say that any of the individual scenes will stick in my mind for long, or any of the imagery etc. Likewise with the cast. I like the main guy but he's also not much of a personality either. It's all kind of middling which makes it sound awful but it moves at a pretty decent pace and it remains a consistent level of lightness that makes it enjoyable and easily likeable too. The power level stuff is scaled really well across the film too, those who have a fondness for more pure hand to hand combat get their moment as do those looking for some more Chan era style stuff as well as MCU CG battling. There's some good combat in the film too but what lets it down to an extent is that the more powers are brought in the less interesting that side of things gets, likewise the film features some shoddy level CG quality at times which Marvel really should be past delivering on by now. In general though it's a hard to dislike film that surprisingly makes good use of the cinema experience and sets a decent baseline for a sequel to build off.
The Spoiler Bit:
Narratively, I liked that they were happy to go back to having Trevor appear. I'm in the camp that enjoyed IM3's spin and this does a good job of paying that unintended arc off. There was a risk that double dipping that character could spoil him and it's a little close at times but several moments like his 'death' and the story of how he discovered acting make it worthwhile.
I enjoyed the family arc too. The mother, Mandarin, Shang and his sister's stories fit well to the characters that are set up in the film. They fit events quite well into the MCU timeline and the reasonings for their decisions make solid sense that I can recall. The only bit that slightly pushed it was that Awkwafina's character became an ace archer in one training session (also the MCU does not need a third Hawkeye) and that Wong said both of them were critically needed... not really sure why she's needed at all. Makes more sense simply to imply Shang refuses to do stuff that means leaving her behind, something that would tie into his backstory with his sister quite well.

Park Seo-Joon from Parasite is headed to the US to appear in an upcoming MCU movie
And following the chain of mega-hits the Russo Brothers have had for Marvel, they have been in talks to return for another entry however talks are said to have stalled over similar concerns as the Johansson lawsuit is covering. It's likely they'll be ironed out but presumably it's safe to assume this is related to a key entry.
Side note, not sure if it's true but apparently Johansson's case is based around an expectation that she has that Black Widow would have made at least $1.2bn at the box office. Personally, even pre-pandemic that sounds incredibly optimistic

I saw Shang-Chi last night and really enjoyed. It’s got lots a touches martial arts film fans will appreciate and doesn’t treat Chinese mythology in a cliched way. Have to agree with NI there is some surprisingly sub par CGI at points and ultimately the usual Marvel CGI puppets fighting each other thing is there which does detract from more traditional Kung-fu being used. The lighter elements were well judged with the humour not feeling forced.
This is the proper start to phase fours rather than the Disney+ shows which have been pretty hit and miss so far.Last edited by CMcK; 07-09-2021, 13:02.

It seems a bit daft to release it the same weekend as Bond (I get that comic book films are popular but would argue that Bond has broader worldwide recognition than Venom on the whole). There's no way they're going to delay No Time To Die again as its had so many delays already and they're probably worried about it making back the budget/marketing costs already let alone reasonable profits.
Seems a bizarre choice to not bring a film that has creepy/horror leanings out nearer to the day of the year that's a celebration of the occult/otherworldly. What do I know though?

The prospects for Disney/Marvel’s Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings getting a China release date are dwindling. This in the wake of comments originally made by star Simu Liu in 2017 which resurfaced this week and have made waves on Chinese social media. In a 2017 interview with the CBC, the Chinese-Canadian actor […]
A reflection of how Hollywood needs to reign itself in and stop aiming to rely on China market cash as Shang-Chi lines itself to be denied a release there due to old tweets by the lead actor over how China is under a dictatorship
