Black Widow enjoyed the largest pandemic era opening for a movie with $220m worldwide. $60m of that though came from Disney+ as Disney released financials on its streaming earnings in a first.
The result slowed down Fast and Furious 9 which now rests at $541m
Boss Baby: Family Business crawled up to $36m
The next release coming up is Space Jam: A New Legacy

Last weeks success story has become this weeks drama as exhibitors have kicked off at Disney due to the release model for Black Widow. Whilst its opening earnings were the highest of the pandemic it has seen a collapse of its box office in its second week with the blame being firmly fingered at the Disney+ premium release. They say the collapse shows that regardless of how the picture is painted it proves that releasing films digitally at launch instead of allowing a decent theatre only run cuts into the earnings of all parties
This also follows news that the critically torn apart Space Jam: A New Legacy managed to quickly knock Widow off the top spot with an international opening of $54m
Black Widow opened to $220m worldwide last week and shockingly has only managed to get its way up to $232m after its second week. Presumably this number excludes the $60m that Disney+ ate up of the first weeks announced figures to discounting that it means BW rose by $72m this week.
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions opened to $13m
Whilst Fast and Furious 9 reached $591m this week and appears to be close to ending its run, the films tally should nip past the $600m in the coming week or so and whilst it is a massive pandemic era hit it also shows the extent of damage cinema popularity has received since 2019.

Do they expect a new release's box office to perform pre-pandemic numbers? It seems as little naive tbh.

Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origins tanked at the box office on opening, its global haul came it at $17m, well below expectations
Old similarly struggled but performed better of the two with $23m
Black Widow continued to see harsh drops, now on $314m worldwide and still raising the question for future big hitters as to whether a simultaneous streaming release is worth the risk
Space Jam: A New Legacy raised its game to $93m but is also losing business hard
Finally, Fast and Furious 9 managed to hit the $600m marker where it seems likely to pretty much stop rounding out a weak week for cinemas.

Jungle Cruise opened this week to $61m which was in parts better than what was expected however given the way films have been suffering deep declines and the very high budget of the production this already seems on track to be a commercial flop. The film also added $30m via Disney+ which theatres will likely cite as another example of cinema earnings being spoiled by home release.
The film was beaten in the UK market by The Suicide Squad that opened to $7m, though that films release was so limited so far its overall tally has yet to be updated.

On its US release The Suicide Squad has underperformed despite strong critical and audience feedback. Opening to $26m, the takings are below projections with a lot of eyeballing being placed on its r-rating, the previous films online reputation and the rise of the Delta variant shaking audience confidence in going to cinemas, particularly for a film that was also launched on HBO Max the same day. Taking in its other market grosses the film has hit $72m so far worldwide so its long run will be one to watch given nothing since Fast and Furious 9 has fared up to expectation.

Free Guy managed to beat expectations and open to $50.9m worldwide. The cause of the higher numbers is still being pinned down but already being highlighted is that this is the first film Disney has released this year that isn't on Disney+ from launch. Disney has already begun pursuing Free Guy 2 with Reynolds.
The Suicide Squad dropped off hard in the US, it's overall box office is ticking along at a relatively steady pace with its tally now up to $118m. The studios reaction to the film mostly being buoyed by its strong HBOMax reaction though.
Don't Breathe 2 opened to $14m against a $15m budget, it's a strong opening but heavily down on the original film.
Jungle Cruise sailed to $154m this week
All of the above remain in the frame moving forward as release delays have cleared the schedules for now
