Hawley says that he will be sideling Prometheus' origins of the Alien as he finds it takes away from the creature. He will also be pushing aside the films visual style, preferring to keep things in line with the first two Alien movies.Last edited by Neon Ignition; 15-01-2024, 07:27.

It's the whole time is a flat circle thing. Before long the ad breaks will be as long as the stretches of episode between them and every episode and film you select will come with a 3 minute anti-piracy video fronted by Martin Freeman because the current upward trend of torrenting content will continue to skyrocket thanks to spiralling split service costs, ad interruptions and perhaps critically the growing trend for services to wipe content from existence.

Yep, it's all going that way. A few years ago, YouTube said their strategy was to "frustrate" users with ads to get them to pay more. A generation has now grown up experience content on demand at a cheap price point with next to nothing by way of ads. They will all be frustrated off those platforms and on to piracy options.

It also has to do with the capitalistic requirement for growth. It's the same challenge that Apple has had with iPhones, where growth is flat because pretty much everyone in the world who has ever wanted an iPhone has got one by this point, and year-on-year improvements are minimal resulting in a slow upgrade cycle. As a result they have aimed to grow their 'services' business (Arcade, TV+, News+, etc) with so far mixed success.
Ultimately there is always a total addressable market for every product. Growth can be massive early on as you scale and then will inevitably slow when you start to cap out. At that point your only opportunities for growth are to raise prices, seek revenue sources other than end users (ads) or upsell existing customers on extras.
Netflix are already exploiting the first heavily. Increasing the use of the second seems inevitable. And I wouldn't be surprised if 'premium' films or series were added eventually on a Prime-style pay-as-you-go model as an upsell option.

And they'll get away with it because people will pay it. They have a 12% year-on-year revenue increase in 2024, with a net income of $938 million. There's not any real justification for the increase in the cost other than "give me more money".
If every single subscriber just went - nope - and canceled it, there'd be no price increase.
