just finished umbrella academy season 4, really disappointing end to a series that’s been on its way down since the excellent series 2.
This short 6 episode run feels like the writers just gave up, full of plot holes and bits that were put in clearly because the director thought it would be funny.
it’s sad that rather than tie things up and give the characters a good send off most of the six episode run is side quest time wasting type stuff that has no relevance to the show’s overall Arc.Last edited by Lebowski; 15-08-2024, 10:46.

Slow Horses Season 3 - Maybe a little more by-the-numbers than the previous but no less enjoyable. S4's iminent arrival is perfect timing and it looks like S5 already has the green light. Fave show on TV at prez.
Only Murders in the Building Season 4 ep 1 - This show is far from perfect, sometimes feeling like the actors are making up the plot on the spot, but I do have a soft spot for it. S4 kicks off with news that Paramount want to make a film adaptation of the podcast(sers) ... with fun straight away coming from Charles, Oliver and Mabel meeting their already-cast actors (was Seinfeld the first show to do this?) and hearing their less than flattering traits laid out by the execs. It's an enjoyable set up from the start. With a new murder on the cards too, obviously.

I've said before that I've never really gelled with Only Murders but that's because I was expecting a murder-mystery show, but it's actually a sitcom. The show might even work better with a live audience laughing at the silly lines. Might watch the new series, but it doesn't excite me.
I've heard there's a new series of Colin From Accounts, which is a bit of a conundrum as it was a beautiful, lovely, funny show about two people brought together after they injure a dog in a car accident. The mismatched couple end up really growing to like each other and it's beautiful to see their layers of defence get lowered.
Then the penultimate episode happens and it undoes everything the previous episodes have built on. It's like they decided they needed to throw in some drama to resolve at the end of the show. It's so bad, I'm conflicted as to whether it's worth bothering with.

Yeah, we started Colin From Accounts S2 (iPlayer) and it's decent, with a few laughs, but their relationship seems really strained and they're labouring how little they know each other and that the dog is the only thing they have in common. Hoping they'll build from there. I really want to love it as I was enamoured with the first few episodes of S1.
Started watching Inside Number 9 (iPlayer). Basically, I found League of Gentlemen too weird to be enjoyable, but I keep coming across the work of Steve Pemberton (he was lovely on Taskmaster) and Reece Shearsmith, the latter was at the Spaced 21st anniversary and the Wicker Man documentary and I keep thinking we like the same films.
So I convinced the wife to watch it and it's really good as an anthology show where no two episodes are linked. I think we've seen 3 now and they're really clever and even though you're looking for the twist, it normally is smarter than you!
I particularly enjoyed the "silent" episode ("A Quiet Night In") , where they play two burglars robbing a painting from a man and his young wife (played by Charlie Chaplin's granddaughter, Oona Chaplin), but can't make a sound for fear of being caught. I was in stitches where the two silently debate how long the husband will be in the toilet and then arguing just how long it takes for a number two.

Rob & Romesh Vs (NowTV).
Never seen any of the previous 6 series, but been looking forward to this since I saw the pair arsing around at the side of the stage before QotSA at Download.
The 2nd episode sees them challenged to sing a song at the festival.
As a long-term fan of Download, it was really nice to see the festival getting some attention.
I thought they hit the right level of humour and piss-taking and the whole episode was really funny.
Gutted I couldn't spot myself on camera, though.
It was so much fun, I watched the first episode of the series where they try to be stuntmen, meeting with the stars of The Fall Guy on its press tour and going to LA to visit David Leitch's stunt studio.
Again, it's funny and they're able to have a laugh without being disrepectful.
Great fun, but pretty sweary.
Mr. Inbetween (D+).
Started the final season after the tough end to S2.
Brilliant television.

finished the rest of Lioness. Apart from the
falling in love subplot which I get was needed to set up more suspense & make the character more human and relatable
this was top drawer television. I cannot recommend it highly enough. Metacritic peeps are on crack.
The entire cast is excellent, some of the spec ops characters are underused, hopefully they will get more screentime in the next season, in particular I liked the leader she was pretty cool.
Writing and direction (shoutout to my homie John Hillcoat) are all top tier.
Cannot wait for season 2.
oh special mention regarding Nicole - damn she's overdosed on the botox, she literally has zero facial expression, it really is freaky.
edit: meant to say
THOSE climax scenes were like WOAH! So brutal and awesome. very very cool ; showed her instinctual training
