Yeah. Casino is an epically beautiful film. And now you’ve made me want to watch it again. Which I will.

^any excuse to watch that movie is a legitimate one, I count myself very lucky to have caught it on the big screen when it first came out. Even though it's less 'perfect', I've always slightly preferred it over GOODFELLAS.

PROPER meaty gangster film, plus it always reminds me DEJA VU 2 on Amiga whenever I see it.

Back on the British gangsta tip, ended up proper rewatching my old Anchor Bay DVD of THE LONG GOOD FRIDAY for the first time in about fifteen years.

        WHAT a film.

This movie is a gift to Bob Hoskins and he makes this film SOAR, it was his magnum opus, a great movie perfectly tailored for him.

He's just brill, brill, brill. He might be five foot nothing in size but galactic in gangstery gravitas.

Deffo Brit classic and this DVD looked brill on my telly, result!!!!

Aaaaaw, man, felt so sorry for the bloke, ie. Harold Shand!

I mean, for the first third-n-a-bit of the movie, peeps are just having a BIIIIIIG go at him and he doesn't know quite why!!!!!

Nobody plays a stressed-to-fug British gangster like Bob Hoskins did, he makes you feel stressed watching the bast!!!!!!!

            Colossal

This was great. Jason Sudeikis’ performance blew me away.

            Into the Spider-verse

Put this on randomly for some background noise while building a TV cabinet, but you can’t not look at it. It’s sumptuous.

            Forgetting Sarah Marshall

I saw this years ago but, ironically, could only remember a few bits. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Yeah, his character and performance really took me by surprise in that movie. Not what I was expecting at all and quite a complex character. I enjoyed it.

Last night I watched Who You Think I Am, a film about a woman who pretends she is much younger online and starts up a relationship with a guy who she can't really meet or he'd find out she's around 50. Juliette Binoche is great in it and, overall, it's really good but it commits a story crime in my books -

spends a chunk of the movie showing us stuff that didn't actually happen. In this film's defense, it is very upfront about the stuff not happening so it's not done for a cheap rug-pull but I still don't like it.

^I love older women, myself. Always have. They tend to offer much better convo and much less BS. I love the grannies. And they need the LOVE.

I own a big, big ball of it. I know how love works. Though it is my Kryptonite.

                ANYHOO!!!!!!

Watched DECK THE HALLS, a PG-rated US 'family comedy' from 2006. Starring Matthew Broderick and Danny DeVito.

It was OK, tbh, it provided a shallow little sluice of that old retro 80s Xmas feel. It's quite a positive film, in the end.

BUT........... it pulls slapstick punches, this could've been WAY funnier with a few slapstick slaps aboot the swede.

It's a decent, warm, positive, vintage 80s/90s Xmas film. I'd recommend BABY'S DAY OUT much higher. Much.

Though it's not set at Christmas.

Plus, I never realised Danny DeVito was so damned diminutive!!!!!

Peppermint - see other thread. It's great, Garner is great. What was Affleck thinking.....

Got through about 80% of Home Alone with my son before we had to stop (bedtime).
I'd forgotten just how mean Kevin's family are towards him. Surprised he actually wishes for them to come back.
I'm prepping myself for the weird ending where

the family barge back in, say they're surprised he was OK on his own and then all just walk away, leaving him on his own again. Even with the gold tooth, Kevin never explains that the police officer from the start was casing the house to burgle it later. The daughter is never admonished for miscounting the kids and bully brother carries on bullying - fade to credits.

I also watched Parasite, which I merely thought was OK. Sorry to those that love it.
It relies a little too heavily on the stupidity of the rich husband and wife.
Still, it's worth watching as it's an interesting story.

The World’s End. I remember a friend of mine saying, as a general observation, ‘if you think you’ve already lived the best years of your life, you’re f****d’. That’s pretty much a foundation for this film and makes Gary such a brilliant, well written character.

I’ve got a real soft spot for the Cornetto trilogy and offered up a choice of either yesterday when my wife and eldest son said they fancied watching something funny. It was a good pic. Very funny ... way too many great lines to remember ... the soundtrack was ace too. The sci-Fi elements work well but sometimes get in the way of the elements that set the story but ... but ultimately they pay off.

I love the work these guys do. Shaun or Fuzz next.

                          Ghostbusters
                          As great as always

                          Beverly Hills Cop
Better in the second half when the other characters are more involved rather than opposing Axel. It's enjoyable but nowhere near the tier of some other 80's actioners.

                          Bachelor Party

So slow to get going and also so awkward to get used to the idea of Hanks in this type of movie and role but about half-way through once the party starts to get out of their control things begin to click and it's decent fun in the end.

                          Cannonball Run
Meh, interesting cast aside and how on the nose Moore's spy character is to Bond it's a pretty flat film that's light on laughs and worthwhile car action.

                          The Terminator
As much as some of the effects have aged it's still fascinating to go back and see how convoluted the franchise became when something this simple still works so well.

Finally watched my 99p new n' sealed copy of VALERIAN AND THE CITY OF A THOUSAND PLANETS.

                            Burrrrrrriiilllllliiiiiiiiant.

I thought that guy looked wrong in the trailers but he's right in the movie. Simple story but it made me smile and the visuals are XO, *mwahmwahmwah*!!!!!

Sooooo stylish and nice, it's sad it failed at the box office. I'd actually like a sequel, maybe two!!!!!

Also, a film where the female(s) is/are 'represented'.

But not in some convoluted sense that makes them into victims. These gals are BADASS.

Really impressed me, it did. Miles better than THE FIFTH ELEMENT, too, which I thought was a cringey, expensive mess when I saw it at the flicks back in like 1997/1998.

This has heart n' soul. What a nice little underrated gem!!!!
