I know what a Dyson Sphere is and I did not have to look it up.

Guess I'm a nerd too but how a discussion goes from divorce to that I can not imagine.

I'm glad they changed the name of it.

"Dyson Ball Cleaner" is a misleading name.
Me and the hospital staff agreed...

It was actually easy because he's taking the high road. He's been enjoying focusing on himself for a change which is good. Plus we've been mates since primary school. We were on the phone for over five hours. The Dyson talk got interrupted because he had a meeting. When I called back, he was being harassed by a hornet wasp that turned out to be a bumble bee.

I rewatched RISE OF THE FOOTSOLDIER for the first time since I saw it on Netflix or 'Lovefilm', back in about 2011. Bought the DVD for a quid from the Poundland on Crown Point.

It's aged terribly. I used to think this was a worthy, British gangster movie but how off the mark I was.

British Scorsese movie??? Watch this after watching GOODFELLAS, CASINO, THE WOLF OF WALL STREET, you'll see how incomparable this actually IS.

Second time was the stake to the heart for me. Please no more Scorsese comparisons!!

Watched The Hangover 2 yesterday. They just took the script of the first one, switched location and did find and replace on a few words. Not sure I have seen a sequel quite so close to the original.

Eh, it's OK actually. Pretty much paint by numbers and it had some good set pieces. The Rock is always the same really.

                The Towering Inferno
Finishing the big films of '74, wasn't sure of this one at first but once things get going the following 2hrs+ was increasingly great. Naturally there are a couple of ambitious cheap looking shots from its age but much of the film has aged really well thanks to the approach of simply using live fire on set. It's broadly treated like an event with no cheesy hero's with one liners etc and was massively better than I expected, really good watch.

I watched Cruel Intentions. I had never seen it. That film is soooooo '90s. And it's a weird one too. There is no attempt to make it feel in any way believable. It's like watching a school play with a budget. Still, entertaining for what it was. I have a suspicion I would have loved it had I seen it as a teenager.

Watched The Mountain Between Us last night - good performances from the two leads but as a fight for survival after a plane crash in sub-zero conditions hell's teeth it was boring and I couldn't give a damn about either character.

                    The dog was good though.

                        I watched Escape from L.A. from 1996.

I had watched this a couple of times in the past and remember thinking it was quite lame. But I ended up really enjoying it this time.

There's something really fun about how over-the-top and ridiculous the script is. It's like some really cheesy video game with wacky characters and silly setpieces. So as much as it's not a patch on the original Escape movie, it's an enjoyable B-movie sort of experience that kept me entertained throughtout. 3.5/5

I get the feeling this was always a low budget effort but it's aged very aggressively, there was still some fun to be had even though quite a lot of it was cringe inducing.

Same happened with me. I remember being underwhelmed at the cinema when I first saw it then I watched it again a year or so back and I loved it. It had a real 'don't make 'em like this anymore' factor and I loved the old-school special effects too ... the whole film is enveloped in a proper movie world. Music was typically class too. Really enjoyable. I'll have to double-bill both films one night.

I guess I thought it was a bit old fashioned when I first saw it, but now I appreciate its 80s style and overall vibe. I also remember thinking it was a bit too silly compared to the menacing vibe of the original. But all of those feelings were gone when I watched it again. This time I just enjoyed how retro and crazy it is.

I still think it's a strange sequel, but highly entertaining.

I had to watch it in bits over a few days but I finished it last night. I loved it! James Brown, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Nazis, Carrie Fisher with a rocket launcher...and the final car chase was INSANE. I watched the "I gotta pull over!" bit three times.

I'm really enjoying older comedies these days. They took their time and let the scenes develop.
