As great as Across the Spider-verse was, I think making it half a film was a mistake.

Considering how many successful films fail to have successful sequels it was a big gambit as well. Looks like Across has made enough to make it worthwhile on its own but yeah, the ending of the film let's it down

Hard for there to be an ending for it when "Part One" is literally in the title to suggest that the next part will conclude it, no?

To some extent, Dead Reckoning is a Part One but ends on a more satisfying note. Across's cliffhanger isn't a great one and it's the overall quality of the film that leaves the lasting impression.

There's no "Part One" is there? There was but it got changed to:

            Into the Spider-Verse
            Across the Spider-Verse
            Beyond the Spider-Verse

If you weren't aware going in, and the closeness to the end that you realise there's a cliffhanger coming, you'd be allowed to feel a bit miffed. And now there's an indefinite delay for the third film. Boo!!!

I still wasn't entirely wrong though.

And as per usual, Neon is going OTT. Across had a perfectly fine ending that is totally in keeping with the story and sets up the finale of Beyond perfectly.

If Across could be criticised then it felt like the animation quality wasn't as high as it was in Into. Still an enjoyable film overall though - completely discarding the established "With Great Power..." Spiderman genesis trope and going absolutely nuts with it has been a breath of fresh-air.

"the ending of the film let's it down" - OTT statement of 2023

Like the prior discussion with DT when the film released, it would havce served the film better to end around 15 minutes sooner before it closes on a less interesting plot development and before it over signposts how Beyond will resolve everything. It's all gold outside of that one wrinkle though

Had no idea you were such an expert on what constitutes wrinkles in a Spiderman film or what constitutes ideal runtime.

Given the multiverse is literally at the heart of the storyline, I'm not sure how the ending is in any way uninteresting, but that's just me.

Please... let's see you make one and show us all how it's done.

                  Deffo not OTT though.

I already made a multiverse story and it had a myriad of outcomes. You were much more agreeable to what I said in it also

Weirdly, there'll be a multiverse where you too share a flat like Morecambe & Wise or The Two Ronnie's and are BFFs!

There would be a third roommate who, once an episode, just turns to the camera and says “that escalated quickly”.
