I always thought that Connery was my favourite Bond actor but, I dunno, I wonder if a lot of that is due to a romanticisation of the '60s era.

I really like Connery still but Brosnan is defo up there as is, for me, Daniel Craig.

Movie 18 - Tomorrow Never Dies
Brosnan returned for his second outing facing a villain who's relevance is probably much greater today than it was at the time of the films release as he battles a media giant who manipulates headlines to affect the political landscape for personal gain. The film was rushed through to please MGM money men who wanted to capitalise on GoldenEye's reception but although the film performed well it ended up being timed so rapidly that it opened the same day as Titanic.

Was Tomorrow Never Dies a worthwhile second entry for Brosnan?

I'll quickly say I think the title song is one of the most underrated Bond themes. It's sublime.

Ooof, though the title sequence... I haven't seen it in many years and it looks awful today. Too much terrible CGI.

I feel like I need to rinse my eyes out with acid having read some of the praise for Brosnan here haha.

Pffft. Just rewatched and it looks fine to me.
A nod to both the physical action of spy work and the influence of Carver's data being just as damaging.
Like most Bond titles it nods to the story following.
Probably best to avoid pulling apart stuff in Bond that hasn't aged well, or you'll be there all day!
It does look like Circuit Breaker from the Transformers comic is in it, though!

Tomorrow Never Dies is one I've got a lot of nostalgia for, as I had it on videotape when I was a kid and watched it over and over.

I haven't watched it since then. I daren't go back. But I always really liked the opener at the arms fair where he takes off in the jet, and the bit where he remote controls the car off the phone.

Plus the bit where Carver's writing his headlines on the giant screen, that was cool. And when his henchmen shoot all the dudes in the water! Bam bam bam.

So yeah I have the opinion of a 7 year old on this film.

                  I quite like TND.

Pryce really hams it up as the baddy and Brosnan has really settled into the groove as Bond.

Hatcher, erm, no. Just really wooden and a bit useless.

Yeoh felt criminally under-used in my mind.

As QualityChimp says, the song is damn good!

Movie 19 - The World Is Not Enough
Garbage. The theme was made by Garbage for the third film that Brosnan appeared in, this time seeing him embroiled in an attempt to rig petrol prices by causing a nuclear event in Istanbul. The film took the honour of becoming the franchises highest grossing entry ever when it was released. The main criticism the film received was directed at the excessiveness of the action and at Denise Richards efforts to portray a nuclear physicist.

An enjoyable penultimate entry for Brosnan or so bad you want to line jump from a window?

I don't think I've ever seen TWINE all the way through.

Theme song is great (but then I think Shirley Manson is amazing!) and I remember a bad joke about "I thought Christmas only comes once a year".

Oh, and Robert Carlyle with as interesting a Russian accent as Robbie Coltrane. Do the Bond producers think Scottish people do good Russian?!

I'm realising I have only seen two of the Brosnan ones. Goldeneye and Die Another Day. I never fully bought Brosnan in the role but maybe I needed to see the other ones.

TWINE has its moments and it's not a top tier entry but it's pretty inoffensive. I could let Coltrane slide too as he was a carry over from Goldeneye but whilst the Brosnan entries have this reputation for excess I never found that to be the case outside of Die Another Day. TWINE is relatively solid and I didn't mind Robert Carlysle in it either.

I'll have to make an effort to watch it all the way through. I do like Brosnan as Bond

This is another one where I'm reliant on childhood memories. I saw TWINE at the cinema and liked it at the time, although not as much as Tomorrow Never Dies or Goldeneye. I think I also had this one on tape so watched it a few times.

The idea of Denise Richards portraying a nuclear physicist is hilarious in retrospect. I suspect it's a pretty bad film, although of course it didn't plumb the depths that Die Another Day did.

One thing that I would add is that TWINE had a pretty cool PS1 game. It was a lot better than the Tomorrow Never Dies effort, I remember it had a pretty cool range of weapons and gadgets you could deploy in particular. I'm sure it's absolutely not even remotely worth going back to today, but I had fun with it at the time.

The tone is completely different but it's also interesting how much the Craig era films have reused elements from the Brosnan era films without people flagging it. Control of a natural resource as a motive? Brosnan did it first. Villain has a personal vendetta against M and has set a red herring trap? Brosnan did it first. M throws Bond to the wolves for the mission? Brosnan did it first. Villain aims to control catastrophes to steer the course of world events? Brosnan did it first. Old 00 Agent turns rogue? Brosnan did it first.

These things come up with the prior 16 films but the Brosnan entries really made a central point of these things which must be extra salty for him given Brosnan was very keen to do a grounded refresh of the character and they not only did that but repurposed from his era heavily and on top of that treated him like dirt when ditching him despite his era taking the franchise to its peak popularity at the time.
