This is Spinal Tap sequel announced

This is Spinal Tap is by far the funniest film I've ever seen and with the original team on board I am excited at the prospect of more.

Sadly, with the passing of Tony Hendra last year there will be no Ian Faith, the band's manager and one of the best characters from the original film.

But Guest, Shearer, McKean and Reiner can only spin gold in my eyes so I thin this is great news.

'Spinal Tap II', a direct sequel to legendary rock mockumentary 'This Is Spinal Tap', has been announced for release in 2024.

Given the years later timing they could go with This Was Spinal Tap

I have The Return of Spinal Tap on dvd in a box somewhere, the concert movie from the early ‘90s. It seems to have been lost in time. It wasn’t a real sequel in any way but did have some funny footage. Maybe that footage is a bonus feature on the blu rays now, I don’t know. If not, it should be.

              This should be great fun.

Anyone who's been in a band really relates to this.
I have friends who played Wembley and nearly got lost trying to find the stage - "Rock and rooooll!" (Sees janitor for 3rd time)

Two things I need to do with this sequel:
              1. Temper my expectations
              2. Avoid the trailers

I saw as many Wayne's World 2 trailers, clips and teasers as I could as they were hilarious (I was crying at the Sports Illustrated Football Phone kung-fu fight), but by the time the film came out, I'd seen the best jokes and hearing them for a second time had less impact.

              Lesson learned!

They've left it WAY too long for a sequel, and you could argue that a sequel really isn't needed.

Can't see this being anything other than a flop IMO.

Another friend's band had their Stonehenge moment when they ordered some stickers but a miscommunication between inches and millimetres and ended up with hundreds of tiny stickers.

I think it could be good... I'd argue they would need to lean in to the passage of time, i.e. it's ~40 years later and we pick up with what's happened since. We see what the band members got up to. We canonise their appearance and apparent "death" on The Simpsons and maybe they went their separate ways, and got involved with the numerous different musical movements of the 90s, 00s and 10s. Maybe one of their songs weirdly goes viral on YouTube, and then you get themes of the culture-clash that happens when something old gets "brought back" like that. This is all kinda like how the original, despite being satirical, really made the band fit into the musical culture of that era.

But I'm concerned, as QC already brought up Wayne's World 2, that it's going to be more that type of sequel. And I love Wayne's World 2, but that only worked because it came out like 10 minutes after the first one.
