In truth, I just have a soft spot for Jet Jaguar because that movie was shown so much on Channel 4 when I was a kid. It's pretty terrible.

OK, I think it's time I come out and say this....

I've NEVER seen a Japanese Godzilla film. Not one.

I shall now go to the west and diminish....

The second film is a decent flick but suffers from not having the same impact as the first entry. Anguirus is a great little kaiju, though, and it needs to be respected for bringing the ‘duking it out’ element that dominates the series all the way to the present day.

OK, so this thread has gone South pretty quick...

It'll be interesting to see how our responses affect which one you'll decide to watch!

I would have a very hard time telling you which ones I've seen but I have seen several I recall Channel 4 airing them years ago when I caught them

Film 03 - King Kong vs Godzilla
The Godzilla franchise had died off like so many franchises do after their initial success but one stolen pitch later and the lizard God was revived to battle King Kong in a cross over event that proved such a hit that it ensured Toho would commit to Godzilla for years to come. An americanised version of the film was also produced though the original is the one treasured more.

Who truly was the king of Kong?

The American is good if you really like maps and guys looking at maps. Toho wanted to kae the movie with stop animation but due to costs it went back to guys in suits. Shame, they could have asked Harryhausen to do it.
The good thing about the first KK VS G is that there's a clear winner, rather than sequel baiting in basically any recent VS movie or piece of media.

Didn't realise this was only the third in the series.
Don't think I've seen it, actually.

I’ve always had a soft spot for this. It’s the start of the goofier line of duke-it-outs, and loses the darkness of the previous two films. Basically, it’s a fun picture with some decent effects work for the time.

Film 04 - Mothra vs Godzilla
Having already had success with a standalone film for Mothra three years prior, Toho decided to pair it against Godzilla for their next entry with Godzilla acting as the villain of the film and Mothra called upon by the people of Japan to defend them. One of the higher scoring entries in the franchise, it was also not the only entry to release during the course of 1964.

                          God-tierzilla or Mothra****er?

Movie 05 - Ghidorah, the Three Headed Monster
Arriving the same year as the fourth film, things tilt full sci-fi as an an alien being possesses the body of a princess and warns the world that Ghidorah is coming to attack them with Godzilla, Mothra and Rodan being their only hope. Another hit, the franchise was beginning to bed in as a long running concern.

A hell of a Monster Mash?

                              Movie 06 - Invasion of Astro-Monster
The second entry without Godzilla's name headlining the film, once again leaning into the sci-fi elements with aliens pleading with humanity to borrow Godzilla and Rodan only to unleash them on Earth as soon as they get control of the monsters.

Was having aliens involved a good direction?
