    Hollywood Hot Wheels: Round 10

    WELCOME TO:

    HOLLYWOOD HOT WHEELS: ROUND 10

We continue going through the history of the industries most recognisable vehicles covering all manners of iconic designs from film, tv and gaming, their history and what you think of them.

Each round will see three vehicles lined up for the showcase. Unlike the voting conducted in the other threads, here things are more cutthroat.

You each can only vote for a single design in each round, casting the other two to the scrapheap of Hollywood history.
Make your choice then tell us why you like or don't like each vehicle and why you voted for the one you did.

    VEHICLE 028 - Ecto-1 '16

A converted 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood hearse, the reboot attempt provided a new Ecto-1 that followed the thinking behind the original version but applied it to a new design. Retaining the hearse roof, it is repainted with a new design roof rack and a bespoke ghost hodo ornament. Even within its own canon, the vehicle is destroyed at the end of the film but in real life remains owned by the studio.

    A spirited choice?

    VEHICLE 029 - Smokey's Trans AM

The Bandit's car of choice, Reynolds and the films director saw one photo and knew they wanted it. Pontiac said they couldn't have it, but they could have five replica's that they were willing to make for the film and with that another movie classic car was born. Ont eh run from Smokey, the car is used as a method of distracting police attention from the accompanying truck that is crossing the state line and whether it's racing down the freeway or jumping a gorge, the Bandit stays one step ahead of the law thanks to this four wheeled speedster.

Are you going to vote for the Bandit or a rival?

    VEHICLE 030 - Bluesmobile

A 1974 Dodge Monaco, the cop car was one of 13 used during production with each being fitted out for the scene they would be used in. Chosen because it was deemed the best looking cop car, it fared a better fate than the 60 chosen to be used in the famous crash scene and others. The chase scene was done at 1:1 speed, the in film 118mph speed being the actual speed the car was racing at.

Your favourite or leaves you feeling blue?

I don't think Dezerland had any of these cars, amazingly!

Ghostbusters one I'd forgotten about and it's no Ecto-1, is it?
Blues Brothers - it's just a cop car, but the big speaker is pretty cool.

My vote goes for the Bandit's Trans AM.

I don't think there's anything unique about it, IIRC, the big firebird hood was sold to the market, right?
Not sure how all the truckers knew who the Bandit was.

Anyhoo, what a sweet set of wheels.
The gold piping and that giant phoenix on the hood with all the subtlety of the rednecks it drives past is a gaudy, guilty please.

You just gotta hope it doesn't rain.

I love all three … even the one from the bad Ghostbusters film … but the Bandit’s Trans Am reminds me of being a kid and loving that muscle car awesomeness.

I kind of appreciate the thinking behind the reboots Ecto-1, the logic makes sense and it's a good choice to take a hearse and convert it. I think the main issue with it is that by moving the choice of vehicle forward 30 years, to reflect what would be more likely available to the characters, they walked into the territory of having to have a vehicle design that's fundamentally less interesting as the modern you get the less interesting car design becomes visually. It's fine but it lives in the vast shadow of the superior original version.

For the Bluesmobile, I've always loved the look of the 70's/80's US police car, it's something that's weirdly nice looking. But... it's largely just a police car which makes it hard for it to compete with...

The Trans AM. Literally the coolest thing in the film, not that much has been done to it but it just looks on point at all times

They recreated the Bandit jump a few years back and, well, I don't really know what they were expecting and it didn't turn out well...

(skip to 2:25 for the jump)

It staggers the mind as to how they expected that to go any other way
