worse than the fact that FMA has been licensed is the fact that Cartoon Network will be showing it on TV which means HEAVY cutting and the worst type of dub known to mankind, my guess is they'll use that guy who does picolo's voice for scar and gohan's for alphonse.

I've been trying to push (my addmitedly meagre) weight around to try and keep at least one of the teams onboard without success, i'm gonna try and recruit the AMAZING karaoke typesetter and absolutely astonishing encoder for a new group... we shall see.

Anyway, funnily enough at this point in time there is only one alternative (Sonchou Fansubs) and thankfully there subs and encodings are of a high enough level to be a very viable alternative. The only thing worrying me is their recent semi-affiliation with AnimeForever, who rank pretty highly in the piss-poor encoding and sub-par subs catergory. i hope it doesn't rub off on them.


what did i tell you a****eru ze baby is top notch, unfortunately i'm not enjoying lunar's typesetting on the series, far too pale and the stuttered timing is a real hinderance, not up to there usual high standards.

Finally started watching gantz and its pretty good, apart from the very bad art direction in the first episode its very interesting, i love the shows concentration on what the characters are thinking rather than saying its a fresh angle and something that has thoroughly captivated me, the same cannot be said for the story so far.

As you guys have probably realised the releases over the last week or 2 have been slowing down, mainly due to the majority of fansubbing groups staff being in the middle of exams this will subside soon enough to bring forth a sea of anime releases and hopefully the end of GOKUSEN.

Koi Kaze is providing me with more and more inciteful scenario's regarding the step-sibling dynamic and as always the art direction is fantastic.

I just realised the biggest injustice that will be carried out is the desecration of the ED & OP themes for FMA which are tune for tune the best for any anime series i've ever watched (yes even porno graffitti's - Melissa, Tobal do not refute it!.). seeing as i'm on the subject i have to say the standard of OP & ED songs has been of an incredibly high standard this season with the gantz opening being my current fav (excluding FMA, of course) reminds of Asian Dub Foundation for some reason.

Oh yes, this is why I stuck with Naruto. Oh yes. My only small problem is the insistence of calling people male when they are obviously not. Long hair? Female voice? It must be a girl for crying out loud. Anyway, keep up the good work, I have a feeling it is only going to get better.

Small spoiler, but I don't think it's anything to worry about: There's a fight between Gaara and Rock Lee around episode 50-something that is ****ing amazing. I thought that Sasuke fight you're talking about was the best one of the series, but then that one came up and just blew it right out of the water.

FMA's the only series I'm following right now (56k modem means I have less freedom of choice, although I watched the 71-79 Naruto episodes), but I don't see what's so bad about FMA's licensing, other than slightly increased difficulty to get fansubs, and it's not like all groups are going to stop. At least it makes it more accessable for those people who can't get fansubs.

We knew it was going to happen sooner or later, and there are far worse companies than Funi (like 4kids). It's just unfortunate they don't release everything to the standard of Fruits Basket, which is nothing short of brilliance. Still, it's too early to say how well they're going to release this, so I'm going to withhold whining until later.

Okay, fine, it'll probably be cut on CN, but it's fair to say the DVDs will be uncut (and hybrid), and it's not like we're forced to watch it on CN. Same with the dub, although there's a chance it could be good. I think it's a good thing that decent anime will be released in the UK (I'll still be picking up the R1 DVDs though).

I'm less impressed with what I've seen of Naruto. Even ep78 wasn't as great as I'd been led to believe. I don't remember the manga being nearly as dragged out as this, although I did read the arc over a year ago. I think I'll just stick to the manga for now.

Thing with comparing Naruto manga to the Anime, is your reading speed, and the fact there 114+ chapters more to read. For me i enjoyed naruto a lot even if it does drag on sometimes, it always throws out some surprises and most of the major fights are brilliant to watch animated.

The with Funi is they have only ever done 1 half decent dvd collection and that was Kiddy Grade, but the likely hood of getting FMA uncut and soon if extremely low, specially considering CN are going to be airing it, which will be a complete disgrace. I can't think how CN will get around all the killings and massacres that happen and the dubbing is bound to be Bay Blades bad. Also there no way in hell i'm playing ?20 a 4eps on a dvd, on imports.

Bah! the current ending sucks for FMA, but i've grown to like the current Opening , as for Gantz opening is totally rocks, i find myself sometime quoting its Engrish "its Sucky just like my life" also ep5 of gantz ruled, the lucky git. Also Onegai Twins OVA(ep13) was some really good stuff and already reminds how much fun it is to watch the Onegai series, and even if the last we'll in a while it wrapped up things nicely for some lose ends in the last to series (Herikawa is differently doing the male teacher Yamada, Hyosuke/Misumi relationship and who is Mikes lover once and for all between karen and Mina(and im glad the one i wanted was chosen )

I managed to read the manga version of Gantz and I have to say the TV series has been severly edited.

One example is when they get run over by the train. In the anime they seem to get thrown onto the side bit, but in the manga Kei gets decapitated.

The manga has fantastic art though

Kei is decapitated in the anime, notice where his neck should its all blood, also the 1st peron view of his head rolling on the ground should be a dead give away to(as should the people shouting and screaming)

Nothing but pure brillance that show, its in my top 5 animes of all time for me, mad story, great art and animation and brilliant sound track make it one of the best. And being only 6 episodes long, its not a pain inthe arse to get online or on dvd.

Wouldn't they have done it by now ?

I've never really encountered it before.
I notice some subs say to cease distribution once the series is licensed.
But....that can't be the end surely!

FLCL is interesting in a obtuse way, as you've said you enjoyed the manga i'd highly recommend it.

Thanks for the heads up about the FMA website Sasuke, you can tell the clips have been hastily put together from the lack of dubbing for the characters (they try to cover it with music) and the distinct lack of karaoke for the OP (will they put any? will they even use L'arc En Ciel's track once they license something). It also doesn't bode well that the first translation they do and they've made grammatical errors and translation errors, obviously i'll have to reserve this judgement until the finished product but it does not bode well.


Walller, your comments are completly valid, however i disagree on your points about Funi in comparison to 4Kids. I have to say that 4Kids produced one of the best dubs ever in pok?mon, ok you'd probably say how could they get it wrong with the amount of money that had been thrown at the project but its quite easy to mess these things up (Beyblade, a case in point) generally the quality of the show will shine throught (i.e. cardcaptors) but this doesn't seem like it will be an easy task for them in the timespan they've given themselves.

Crystal Kay is class, and the Madlax OP is pretty good too.
