Ahh, gotcha. Well I was really just commenting on the songs, I haven't looked at the video of the opening much at all. I liked the first ones because they were original and weren't just a collection of clips from the episodes.

Like I said, definitions/understanding of it are getting crossed. Also eh? That still doesn't make a difference to what it is categorized as. Your last doesn't make sense to me...

No that's 2 things he whined about (and he didn't just do it once) and one constant attitude that the existence of everyone is putting him out a great deal. He lives in a constant state of whine Okay, his feelings about the girls arn't that harsh but he doesn't seem to enjoy his time with any of them. It's hard to see it appealing to guys as well, maybe guys that fantasise about having simpering idiots following them about. Maybe instead of the word "girly" I should use "cutesy"?
It does appeal to guys, it's aimed at them. They are the major audience for it. This is what the japanese otaku like. Aargh *bangs head on desk*

Anyway the rest of it, I'm just going to have to agree to disagree. I think he enjoys his time with them plenty. I don't think it's a constant attitude eit-- **** sakes... I'm just going to drop it...

It wasn't obvious to me at all that the creepiness was for the viewer's benefit, I want what I see to be what's actually happening not an exaggeration to show the character's feelings. We can get the gist of what's going on in his head from his thoughts. While I was writing the first reply I did think back, some of creepy looks I can accept because he's looking back and she wouldn't be able to see. It's that he's acting creepy and suspicious the entire time he's talking with her.

Actually, that's the thing. The creepy looks and stuff only really come about when he's thinking these thoughts about how to get rid of her. Off hand the only other disturbing look I can remember him giving her is when he tells her that he's Kira. Whenever Light's talking to her, he's always talking normally and IMO not showing any creepiness. So I wouldn't say he's creepy the entire time either. Seems like a bit of an exaggeration to me. I'll get back to the other bit when I get home. Gonna have to take anoter look at ep 7 and/or the manga then finally put an end to this. *writes Stainboy's name in the death note*

You seemed to think that I was arguing about whether Nana was shoujo or not since you said "Whether you've never seen anything like it that's aimed at girls doesn't make a blind bit of difference to what it has always been categorized as." yet I was merely commenting on why I liked it, because it's different to what I've seen already; I like the characters of both girls and the adult themes. The fact that it has a label of "shoujo" attached to it doesn't make it appear anymore girly to me but it doesn't mean someone else can't find something girly about it.

Calm down dear! You're getting a bit stressed out, I thought we were just having a fun conversation - you said Kanon wasn't a girly show and think that Yuuichi is great; I think it is and that he's a whiney git that needs a slap. Just because I have trouble imagining guys liking the show doesn't mean I don't believe that they do!

just been watching School Rumble. I know im a bit late to it, but i thought i would say I haven't laughed out loud watching an anime since GTO or Azumanga. Its hillarious.

School Rumble is full of Win. My only problem with it is the lack of any relationship winners, everything is still how it was at the start(almost) with the only proper Boyfriend/Girlfriend couple being Sou and Asou and even thats now off in the manga(which i really need to get myself).

Just give me EriXHarmia or YakumoXHarmia and im ok

Yep, agree with that. Although I'd love to see it continue for a while(especially if it's as funny) I can't help but think it should end with a third and final season with some conclusive relationships formed or at the least some progress without resorting to the resets that they have used. Go out on a high before it becomes too stale. Undecided which pairing I would like, similar to Tobal I'm split between Eri and Yakumo. At this point I guess I'd just settle for some proper progress down one path.

the live-action movie of death note. i doubt its going to be any good though, its got that pathetic shuya from battle royale in it.

Not much happening in the current shows im watching that really stands out or worth talking about.

Negima! on to ep6 now(ep7 to watch) the show has gone off doing its own thing now, so it bares little in relation to the manga or original tv series, its more like a parody of negima with some great art and good animation(in places), the 3-pactio card things just an annoying plot device which i would just prefer to have the proper combat cards instead of cosplay and joke cards... still going to watch it being a negima fan and its still enjoyable but not what i was hoping for, the PPD crew styling's have totally taken over.

Soukou no Strain ep4/5 - things have moved on a bit from the lightspeed battle, though not much,

Sara gone of the deep end only taking to a doll and the bullying's getting worse and worse even though she pretty much saved thew crew from certain death at the hands of her bother. The smacking she took in ep5 was pretty cool, just kept taking the punches to the face and i was like "OUCH". I can only put her silence and coldness downto her not want to make friends again and watch them die like last time. I can see it now, Sara starts to come out of her shell and then WHACK! lots of death friend again...

Black Lagoon ep19/20 - im liking this japan arc, they've built up a good background for all the ****storm that's about to happen in ep21 and i'm sure that Ginji guy not gonna disapoint(he gives of that Roberta vibe). Loved Revy playing with the japanese kids toy gun and acting how people die when they get shot.

Also Soul Link ep11/12 are out.. why do i hear nobody cheering?... this show is Divergence Eve good

Playing Phantasy Star Universe makes me smile now as everytime I look at people's characters with their name and level above their heads reminds me of Death Note

                          Deathnote ep8

The people behind this show must have spent a lot of their TV watching time nit-picking plotholes as this must be the most watertight show I've ever seen. Most other shows would never have mentioned the invisibility of the apples when Ryuk eats them and left me fuming at the screen but this goes so much further, especially with all the experiments Light has tried with the Death Note rules. I'm finding it hard to pick holes in anything. I left this episode hoping/expecting Light to find an unsolvable problem soon, like as Ryuk suggested he can't buy a mini LCD TV every day after all.

                          Deathnote ep9

Well my hopes were fullfilled but Light's outburst on returning home after the uni ceremony, I know he changes his mind and starts to think it's a good idea afterwards but could he start playing riskier games here instead of his original goal? Have a question about Japanese schooling here, Light did an exam and then seems to have straight away started Uni. Has the series progressed over a longer time than I think or do you have to take an exam right before you start uni? And I'm assuming he's uni-ing in the same town and will still live at home? You know what I wouldn't have minded seeing as well, the footage from the other inspector's house cameras, just to compare what the innocent suspects are doing in comparason.

I absolutely love this series, it's right up there with 24 for me with on-the-edge-of-my seat suspense. Since FilmFour had a studio Ghibli season I'd really love for More4 to take a plunge and show a couple of anime's of this quality.

Edit: I sent a comment through their website urging them to.

I'm soooo behind with anime right now, trying to get through the recent flood of decent PS2/360 games, and my US Wii distracting me from those too, not to mention trying to fit PSU in too, the only chance I have to watch anime now is when I'm eating thus cannot hold a game controller!

Anyway, liked NHK too, was never really sure on the direction they were taking the series. Did sorta come across as they were tackling with each 'issue' of society one at a time, with the basic messege seeming to be that there's nothing wrong with being into things like MMO's, hentai/loli and everything else so long as it's not taken to the extreme where your life falls apart around you, least that was the impression I always got.
Suppose they're also trying to say that everyone has problems and shutting yourself away isn't the answer, though it's interesting that western researchers have a different opinion on hikkomori behaviour and what causes it than eastern researchers do.
Recently read Warriors of Legend, a book analysing Sailor Moon and the various references/critiques it makes of Japanese society, and one think that came to mind was the attitude that anything can be overcome with pure self-belief and strength, which contrasts to a western attitude of recognising a person is different with their own limts and ways of tackling with a problem, and guiding people through at their level... this always seemed to have great relevence to hikkamori.

                            But I'm digressing...

Well it's a manga adaptation so I imagine most of the credit should go to the manga creator rather than the team behind the show for the plot being the way it is. What I have seen of the show it seems to be a pretty faithful adaptation but I'm not really one to pick holes in such things. I'm sure there's a few disgruntled Death Note manga fans out there somewhere.

Hmm. It's an interesting one. From what I have gathered from my anime (and someone correct me if I'm wrong) Japanese students take exams in their final years of high school/college to gain entrance into the universities of their choice. So yeah basically they need to pass entrance exams, and interestingly if they fail they're known as ronin IIRC. I've forgotten the exact reason but it's one of the weird things I've remembered from my anime.

I've fallen way behind on stuff too. I haven't seen NHK since episode 13 which was like 2 months ago . I really liked what I saw of it agreed with fuddle, perhaps the only complaints being the animation in some episodes and Satou as a character being annoyingly idiotic/regressive at times. It's finishing in a few weeks though (final episode count of 24 IIRC which would leave about 2-3 weeks left) by which point I should hopefully have caught up.

Ah yeah forgot it was a manga, so credit to them. I read a scan of the first chapter of the manga and it seemed almost identical, I prefered the anime (especially as it had Ryuk saying "yum" when eating his first apple) but then I think you always prefer the first one you see.

First heard "ronin" used in this context in an early episode of NANA. I suppose I'm a ronin this year but not because I couldn't get in to my course, I just couldn't afford to so have deffered for a year. Before that though I've ronin'd through most of my adult life

As always I'm interested in new things and will just download at least the first episode of a series just from hearing the title. I've started on NHK and from what Shakey Jake says it sounds pretty good.

Another thing I wanted to mention is I've given up on .hack//ROOTS for now, not because I didn't like it but because the downloads were taking so long I've decided to wait for the DVDs and read the manga/play the games in the meantime.
