Haven't seen those shows so wouldn't be able to say. Still have some hopes for Usagi drop (which sounded a bit like Ai****eruze Baby) and Ikoku Meiro no Crois?e which I've heard some people mention in the same breath as Aria.

I think it's mentioned in the same breath because the director or one of the main staff was involved in Aria.

I'd say definitely jump into Usagi Drop zapp. People have been saying it's a fairly faithful to the source manga and what I've read of that is great. Really heartwarming stuff.....up until some of the later stuff.

Yeah. Having watched them both I'll definitely be keeping up with them both. Seen a few others as well:

Usagi drops ep1 - some of the backgrounds were gorgeous and I loved the laidback feel to it. Will make a nice balance to some of the crazier stuff I'll end up watching. Can definitely see the heartwarming angle to it.

Ikoku ep1 - I think I probably enjoyed this just a smidge more than Usagi, but there's not much in it. It's basically that slice-of-life atmosphere that I tend to love when done right. I can see why Aria is mentioned. Also read up on that and yeah the main director, Sato Junichi, behind Aria, Sketchbook and some other shows I really enjoyed is involved in the show.

no.6 ep1 - Intriguing and the main character is certainly very... different. Never seen someone look so pleased to be injecting anaesthetics into and stitching people up. Read around a bit and it seems there are BL undertones from the source material and I guess I can see where it's coming from with the end scene. Not enough to turn me off...yet.

Mawaru penguindrum ep1 - Absolutely gorgeous to look at. Some lovely animation in amongst it all (transformation sequence) and nice use of vibrant colours. Strangely depressing narrator though and there looks to be an

          incest plotline developing

. It was all over the place but in a good way, if that makes sense. Might just be my favourite first episode of the bunch I've seen so far.

Mayo chiki ep1 - I'm going to file this away under guilty pleasure. Hilarious to see

that the most popular girl in school (who has it all) is also a raging maniac with a penchant for S&M. Loved her toying with the main dude e.g. making him believe he's a cyborg and also "torturing" him. She'll largely be the reason I'm tuning into future episodes. Also pretty funny to see a relatively unique spin on the whole little sister waking up the brother thing. Sharpshooter! xD

I've watched a bunch of new stuff now

Idolm@ster : much better than I was expecting, this could actually be a decent game adaptation. Having a huge cast and continually switching between them makes for an interesting format.
Usagi drops : Enjoyed quite a lot, looks set to be pretty cute.
Mayo Chiki : didn't like it at all. All the characters bullying the main character for no good reason, no one really likeable... meh. Seen this kind of show a dozen times before. I'll give it one more ep before dropping.
Mawaru Penguindrum : seems ok enough in itself but it's just not really the kind of series I want to watch. May come back to watch it, I didn't give it a huge chance.
Yuruyuri : Nicest suprise so far, really enjoyable yuri tinged slice of life comedy/

So is there any good new stuff for the summer now that pretty much all the decent stuff has ended?

              Comment

But Nichijou and Iroha are still going

It's looking a good season for comedy and light drama though.

Caught up with the rest now

Nastume s3- Continues where it left off with the spirit/monster tales, great stuff as usually.

Idolm@ster- not bad, was expecting alot worse with a Kon+12 arch types and im guessing the ep1 format won't be what the shows like for proper. Certainly worth continuing to watch as its well animated girls doing cute things with perhaps a plot this time round

Usagi drop- liked the slow, plodding feel with some humor to it which reminds me of Honey'n'Clover, or it might be just the similar art style. I've seen posts about the time-skip in the manga being pretty creepy but no details, but i can guess what it is.

Baka s2- more of the same, decent slap-stick with ecchi which ain't a bad thing but as normal nothing will get resolved or developed as far a relationships go which makes it all kind of pointless.

no 6 - deleted, to flamboyant for my liking...

R 15 - very similar to Baka but with geniuses(who specialise in one thing), MC has a talent for writing porn novels, has a problem dreaming up new situations on the spot from seeing the world around him which results in problems.. seemed alright but im no fan of the MC's love interest or any of the other characters so far or the massive amounts of "sunbeams" ready for clearance on dvd release(a massive pet hate of mine in the last year). Going to give it 2 more eps for improvement as Baka s2 just seems better.

Mawaru Penguindrum- liked what a saw with a good mix of comedy and drama which kept me pretty surprised throughout the episode, depends on what these boys have to do to keep her alive if im to get over the rampant incest, all hinges on ep2 for exposition.

Mayo Chiki- seemed alright, falling under that Ladies Vs Butlers, MM! and sekirei banner of well animated stupid ecchi show for the season.

YuruYuri- as others have said it started off pretty badly but got better... not sure i could take another girls doing cute things show with Idolmaster filling that role, couldn't take last seasons Channel A because it was a so fking boring but not in a good Aria way.

Blood C- A new universe this time, not a fan of the klutzy school girl side but the fighting when the vampire did turn up was enjoyable and alot more a desperate and dangerous fight than i was expecting which made it all the more enjoyable.

Itsuka tenma no Kuro Usagi- pretty much the same setup as Zombie-chan show 2 seasons back. Boy granted immortal body, alot of gore and a ton of fan service, the truck scene reminded me alot of the young ones university challange episode.

Kamisama Dolls- i liked this the most of the new none sequel shows, loved the the flashback which hints at how much of a badass the MC could be, had a very Narutaru feel to it hopefully with some similar kind of shocks.

                  ---
Leaves quite alot of shows to whittle down as im still watching Nichijou, Iroha, Tiger/bunny, Steins;Gate and Ao no Hana.

Think I'm going to leave R-15 and that breast stealing anime for the BD versions given the insane cencorship.

Gave Mawaru Penguindrum a second chance and I'm glad I did. Looks to be pretty entertaining rather than insanely melodramatic like the first half made it out to be.

Itsuka tenma no Kuro Usagi... Looked interesting, bizzarrely inconsistent cencorship. However it's a heavy Seinen show, I'm not sure about following a show that may go the "we'll make this bit as tragic as possible" route so many do.

Hanasaku Iroha what a good show. Can't stand her mother, someone should report her to social services for complete neglect.

I would say the mother becomes a more likeable person around ep12/13

when the family gets together, liked the way they're all at odds with each other but can still come together for a drink just to be in each other company for a bit (to back that stupid pop=drunk stuff was used to)

Anyone watched the new CGI Appleseed ova's, seen UTW have put up a sub but after the poor CGI film they made last time round i'm thinking its more of the same rubbish.

                            Yeah?

I don't her Mum is that bad really, just tied up in her job. I'm enjoying the show and was pleased when I realised it was continuing into this season as I figured it would only be one season.

This season I'm only gonna be watching THE iDOLMASTER though.

                            Comment

idolmaster alot more tiresome than i ever would have thought it would be.. seems to be lacking any of the fun K-on had, and the OP/ED have nice animation song's are all just terrible. I'm putting it down so far on the focusing on the loli characters who are all terrible souless cliches and hope for better from the older idol's.

                              Highlights after 2/3eps..
Natsume3, Kimisama Dolls, Usagi Drop, Mawaru Penguindrum are defo's for the season, and Mayo Chiki as my fluff defo watch

                              Needs to do better
Baka2, Sacred7, Kamisama no Memo-chou, Blood C(atm im just watching the fights, the none fighty stuff is so boring), YuruYuri

                              Dropped
r-15, Itsuka tenma, ikoku Meiro no Crois?e, Manyuu Hikenchou(killed by censoring even on ATX release)

R-15 and Manyuu hikenchou are both things I'm going to check out on BD.

Enjoying Penguindrum, Usagi Drop and Yuruyuri, not entirely sure on Idolmaster, it's in danger of being a bit too bland, focusing on the less interesting loli idols. I did lol at the women fainting when the Tomboyish idol did her shot though.

Not sure if I can stomach watching Mayo Chiki 2. It goes past tsundere and into straight up bullying and bitchyness in the first ep.
