His responsibility, and he should have access to the invoice with the value himself.

Thanks guys. I completely forgot that he should have a postage receipt for something send via recorded delivery. I'll send him a message and give him a chance to sort it out and get on to PayPal if he's still dragging his feet.

I received a threatening phone call and letter from a collection agency due to unpaid ebay fees today. I wasn't aware of how much the fees cost, so I refused to pay anything over the phone. The letter states I owe £31.47, but If I log into ebay I can still pay £23.47 (as of 15th March). Obviously they've added £8 for the letter or something, it's also an 0845 number for the agency and will cost £2 extra for using my card to make a payment.

Can I just pay the fees on ebays site, ring the agency and tell them to piss off?

          Urgent help needed!

I put my signed MGS4 sleeve on eBay for the jp earthquake and initially set it to UK-only. I want to make it available worldwide but can't as it has five bids. If I cancel all the bids, will I be able to revise it? If so, I want to make sure those bidders are able to bid again as usual. eBay says cancelled bids cannot be restored but I don't understand what that means.

          Thanks!

          :edit:

I just ended and relisted it. Problem solved

                Hello,
From 8 April 2011 on eBay.co.uk and eBay.ie, you should start listing or relisting your items (including Good 'Til Cancelled) with a matching product from the eBay catalogue. By listing in the Electronics sub-categories Mobile Phones, Video Game Consoles and Photography with a matching product from the eBay catalogue your buyers can find the exact products they're looking for faster and easier.
You need to have updated all your affected listings by 17 May 2011. If you haven’t listed or relisted and matched all your items with a matching product, you risk your listings being ended automatically and losing your sales history for these listings.
Note: The subtitle feature will not always be visible in the search results or the product page of the selected Electronics categories. It will always be seen when the buyer clicks on the item.
More information on listing from the eBay catalogue can be found here for eBay.co.uk and here for ebay.ie.
                Best regards
                The eBay Team
What are the chances most of the more obscure consoles wont be listed in their catalogue?

Holy christ. Does that mean that unless they have a record of some niche obscure Japanese import system, you're not allowed to sell it?! WTF?!

What is it with some eBay sellers that even when you've left positive feedback they get irked when you've pointed out the item was not quite as described in the listing? It's happened twice to me recently, both in regard to PC games.

In one instance the photo clearly showed the original cardboard clam shell box, only the CD 'jewel' case was supplied and no mention was made of the fact the back insert had clearly received water/liquid damage at some point.

In the second instance the guy, disingenously IMHO, showed the CD/DVD Rom case
with the extra mission pack disc I was interested in alongside. The case/insert was clearly the original one for the whole parent game + mission pack + manual package. Yet all that was supplied in the case was the extra mission disc. I can accept that sort of thing - just. But when somebody also describes the condition as "Like New" and the disc, in particular, has all the usual signs of an old, well used game plus some additional fingerprints I do not feel inclined to let it go without comment.

In both cases I gave them the deserved positive feedback but for speed of delivery, packaging and communications but marked down them down one star for accuracy of description.

Fair I thought but in both cases they've come back at me clearly annoyed at my honestly. I gave them positive feedback and made clear I'm happy to accept my purchases. It's just that I'm not quite as happy as I would have been if they'd been accurately described. It's their fault yet their reaction made it feel as though I shouldn't have said anything.

Change the feedback to a neg. That'll learn 'em.

But I'm not mean like that

Feedback is important, particularly for sellers, and am I not right in saying eBay puts pressure on them to maintain a 5 star rating across the board? When I mark a seller down one star I don't do it without bearing that in mind.

Feedback has to be truthful to mean anything. Even if the service has been otherwise excellent when the description in the listing is at fault, whether it's accidentally inaccurate, unintentionally disingenous or deliberately misleading should make no difference.

The description/photo is all the buyer has to go on. If there is something wrong with the description no matter how accomodating and contrite a seller is afterwards that can't be changed.

I agree that that would be harsh, and I hate people that neg for no reason etc, but really, if a seller complains about the feedback you've left then they are asking for trouble as some buyers are very petty and will go about destroying them for the fun of it. The better thing for them to do is apologise for the mistake, and make sure it doesn't happen again. Yes that won't make a difference to you, but will at least reinforce the old adage that "the customer is always right", and leave you feeling a little less peeved at them.

Personally if anything I make out things to be in worse condition than they are, that way the majority of the time buyers are pleasantly suprised when they get the item in better condition. And with the amount of buyers that don't seem to leave feedback these days, I'd be happy for a positive/4 star rating any day.

Thats what I do too - I don't sell on eBay but I have elsewhere online and I always under-play the condition being very open about anything that might bother me as a buyer. I am a very careful buyer and often contact sellers prior to bidding if something isn't clear about the condition or what's included in the listing description. That's why in those two cases I mentioned I was mildly critical of the innaccuracy because if I'd had any concerns I would have asked first.

But you're right some buyers can be totally unfair with feedback I've had that more than once. As a buyer all I do is judge sellers as I would expect to be judged myself. If the standards I expect are too high, tough.

I've just sold an item on ebay for over ?170. Someone has used the buy it now to purchase it. They have Zero feedback, joined ebay today and have paid via paypal. Paypal has held the money and it's currently under payment review. Alarm bells are already ringing in my head. They have sent me a message asking when the item will be sent and also mention it's for a birthday present. The classic con line. Although i have found their facebook page which shows they live where they want the item to go (somewhere in Edinburgh).

It's probably a stupid question but I should just cancel it and refund shouldn't i? What happens if paypal after their review say everything is fine?

I had a similar situation last year. Didnt send the items despite the buyer emailing a few times and eventually leaving negative feedback. About 3 weeks later ebay sent a message saying "Don't send the items to this person! They might be bad!" which I thought was pretty crap, as I recon some people would have sent the item by then. Long story short, I was right not to send the stuff out, money got taken back by paypal who made me out to be the bad guy - even after they took the money they reopened the case because of the credit card company (I was all ready for them to take the money twice, I tell you they are lucky they didn't as I was bloody annoyed) but eventually closed it without reason. Ebay on the otherhand were lovely and removed the feedback, gave me back the fees and apologised, and I mean a proper apology not a copy-paste job from a script, for the hassle.

So yeah, don't send it, refund now or wait to see how it pans out. From experience Paypal only hold the money when YOU are a new seller to make sure you actually send the item. If you are a long standing member they don't just hold payments for the hell of it (my scammer actually tried to tell me paypal were holding the money until they received the item and left positive feedback, which they promised they would lol, but I remembered paypal had only done this when we were new).
