Chose today for my first commute. What a **** day to choose.

Absolutely hammered down on the way home so I got thoroughly soaking wet. Managed to stack it too. Scratched all down one side of my leg.

    So much for keeping fit.

oooof unlucky. At least every other day is going to be better!

I went riding yesterday and lost the front end at the apex of a corner. Tyre drifted a few inches and gripped again. Pure skills (or luck).

I have just got back in from work now. I still think cycling in the rain is better than being stuck on the tube with all the humidity and wet umbrellas poking you in the eye on the way to the station.

Mr Mullet, have you cycled up North End Road before?

I have already decided that is my nemesis.

Best feeling ever that. There's a split second where you're thinking you are done for then all of a sudden grip is restored and you breathe a major sigh of relief!

I was out cycling the other week for first time in months and months. Ankle is still a wreck but I went anyway and it was worth it. Kicking about the hills in a place called Arrochar, think we got up over 1000ft. Then we went up this tarmac road towards a dam which was quite steep to say the least. But on the way back down it was stunning. 40 miles per hour the whole way, and I believe it was just over a mile long so it took a while to get down even at that speed but the adrenaline rush was awesome! Legs were done in the next day though!

Check me out. 5 miles, off road, in 33 minutes. Including my traditional bit of walking because of a stitch (wasn't expecting to go for a run, so had had an apple 30 mins beforehand). That's frickin fast.

Thats 10 mins quicker than my average road run of 5 miles, well done charlesr

Thanks man. I've got a stinking cold too, but I'm feeling so damn healthy and fit. Now if I could just get some more sleep without being woken up by the kids. I got 8 hours last night, but my body is saying more for recovery.

Just completed the Birmingham half marathon today, my very first and I think I'm hooked on the long distance events! Organisation was pretty poor, with far too many bottle necks along the course but had a good time nonetheless.

Nice one. What time did you run?

I've still got a cold - just as I ditched the last one, the new one arrived. Makes up for months of not having a significant one... So my mapmyrun calendar is looking abysmal this month.

However on Sunday, I went riding for 3.5 hours up and down some awesome singletrack on the south downs at Friston. Heavenly. Slidey too on the mud at the top. Hoping to go this Sunday too. And a race in Crowthorne Woods on the 14th Nov.

Well done, a few of my mates did it siad it was OK not as good as last year. I think the problem would have been numbers, last year was 7500 this year they aimed for 15000. Thats a lot for a race to increase by and I wouldn't be surprised if this doesn't end up more about making money than just being a good race

Well, calendar was rubbish in October. 3 weeks of cold and flu really shut me down. Still, rest of the year has been relatively illness free, so all good.

Here's to a more productive November. Went for a gentle 3 mile jog at lunchtime to ease back into things.

Holiday for 2 weeks, england 2 days then abroad on work for a week really buggered up my training 2 months ago, then i caught a cold and flu for 3 weeks like yourself, loosing nearly 6 weeks of running

On the plus side ive recently discovered indoor rock climbing, and absolutely love it, such a good upper body workout not to mention needing a surprising amount of technique, awesome stuff

First 5k yesterday for over a month (3 weeks hols and 1 week man-flu) - horizontal hail and 5c was a bit of a shock! Crap time but pleased I completed it without breaking down.

Back on the routine now - only put on 3kg on holiday - considering the portions and beer that's not bad.
