Same here, I played football on the weekend even though I wasn't well and I felt so drained, could barely run. Hopefully the time off from the gym is better then actually going and perhaps actually doing more damage then good.

mmmm feeling sooo much better. did a nice 9 miles last night. then did 2 mile warm up tonight then 8miles at 6min30 pace followed by 2 miles warm down, feel soooo much better. blasted tonight so the rest seems to have done me good. need a long run tomorrow but gonna struggle as having to work till 6 planning on running home from birmingham should be nice to pass all the rush hour traffic instead of sitting in it for once!

Managed to get a run in tonight and thankfully it wasn't all that bad. I decided to take a step back for this week and then get back up to the same distances as I was running a couple of weeks ago. The cool thing is despite not running for over a week I've still managed to lose weight

Bit weak here. Been drinking and smoking massively before and over Xmas so have started to try and get slightly fit again. Managing to do 100 reps per arm with an 8 kilo dumbbell every night (biceps nicely bulbous at present.) Doing between 80-200 crunches per day, too, to maintain flatness of the gut. Still having a drink every night (but not as much) and smoking too much but better than it was in late '06. Probably not the ideal way to do things but better than nowt.

Strip sets is the best alternative to forced reps, I think. Easiest to do with dumbbells, or having a partner stripping weights.

Just saw a great quote over on John Stone's site -

If you wake up on leg day and don't feel a little scared, then you're just not working hard enough!

I always wake up scared on Leg day!

Just back from a chest and half arsed abs workout. Had to drop my bench press back down to 80kg since I had no-one to spot me but got two sets out on 8 reps which pleased me, so hopefully go for 85kg next time if I've got a spotter.

Chain hasn't posted here for a bit, you okay mate!? Gotta keep the thread active with weight talk!!

Leg pressed 200kg for 8 reps on my 5th set yesterday. Well impressed.

Also bought a Pilates book, so expect to see teh geh stretching and rolling around at my gym soon. Although, annoyingly, they've gone and plonked a dozen "cardio" machines which no-one ever uses in the stretching/mats area.

Decided I should tart running to trim my waistline. I saw Asics running shoes recommended earlier in the thread, and as I'm in love with their Onitsuka Tiger range, I bought these, seem to be quite good.

Anyone have any tips for a TOTAL beginner runner? I seriously doubt I can run for 10 minutes straight, but I'll find out tonight after the gym..

Great idea IMHO its the best way to lose weight.

I personally love Asics most of my mates who consider themselves proper runners use them but, its all personal and really its a good idea to chose a shoe suited to your running style, best to go to a proper store (not JJB) and get them to analyse your gait.

That said though rather than worrying about technique or tips just get out and run. If you can get out in this weather you'll have no prob's in the summer. Dont worry about running continually mix walking and running main thing is to enjoy it. Speak to other runners say hi, ask where they are going etc or even better join a running club sounds serious but most are beginner friendly with groups that do 1 or 2 miles to start and then build up.

Where abouts do you live? may know sopme clubs to recommend. the runners world website is a good place for starters.....

most of all even 5 mins walking/running is a lot better than 30mins thinking about it and probably a lot more satisfying after.

Thanks, I live literally a stones throw from the washlands on the Trent in Burton, loads of nice flat paths for running on. I was kind of hoping to keep it solitary for a while, being embarrassed at my feebleness is one reason, but I also think it'll be good for me to have some alone time. Now it's down on paper (so to speak) I'm going to run as often as I can. I'll report back on how it goes.

Like the mix of running/walking tip, presumably I'll be able to improve pretty rapido?

Don't worry about not being able to run far in the beginning. Last April when I started, I could only really run about a mile before getting winded.

I persevered and it came quickly enough. Despite breaking a collar bone at the end of May and having to lie on the couch for a month, I ran 2 marathons in October, both under 4 hours, and I'm running another in April and hoping to go around 3:15.

Perseverance. Consistency. Progression. And look after yourself - eat well, stretch, get enough sleep.

                            He's too busy spamming Edge

                              I RETURN!

And that guy on Edge is an imposter.

Not had a home PC the last week, was building a new HTPC and ran in to some installation problems. All up and running now

Lifting isn't going great. I can literally punch up 110kg on the bench, but 115 may as well be 200, it won't budge an inch. Demoralising.

Plus my waist line doesn't want to budge. I've noticed a little loss - trousers a little looser - but there's not visible difference.

On a bit of a downer health wise I'm afraid.
