I like that second shot - it's got a cool geometry to it

Stunning shots Mag, I love the squirrel

Ditto what Marty said about the second shot Herb, awesome picture.

I got a shot of the same flower as your 3rd shot post bloom today as well...

Used the zoom and the flash as you said Marty to get a little bokeh...

      A dead bee....sniff

Went to a house party last night where they had a fire going....

Great shots everyone. I'm going to have to catch up properly with the last couple of pages. Quick one I took today:

Cheers, Alastair. It's great to be back. I will indeed and you can expect many shots of my new rotary powered toy from Mazda that arrives in June.

            Magnakai,

Beautiful pics! I have the Canon 70-200 IS too. I think you will agree that it is a stunning piece of glass.

The flash doesn't give you bokeh it rids the shadows ( but I guess you knew that ) and it's really helped there. The amount of depth of field compacts gives still comes through, but you've also been a bit more careful with the backgrounds and it's definitely starting to blur out - the further away the background object is the more it'll blur. They're decent portraits

                Cheers Marty,

I've just got a new toy for my new toy

Very quickly tested it this morning to make sure it works. It should be great when I go on my holidays this summer

Thanks for the kind words guys! It was a lucky configuration of having beautiful glass, a beautiful day and some beautiful birds who seemed to love posing. Hmm, that makes it sound far more exotic.

Ish, that's an interesting shot. It's so sharp and crisp.

Richard, it's without a doubt a stunning lens. I'm going to save (and save) up for the 2.8 IS version. The extra stop is really going to come in handy for gig photography, I think.

Tommy, those are really nice, and the fill flash is obviously working well, though it overblew the guy in the first portrait. A little bit of post processing could help though. This was 5 minutes of really quick tweaking in Photoshop:

I just did a quick selection of the face and body, played a bit with the curves, saturation and contrast. Then I inverted the selection, so that the background was selected. I used the Lens Blur filter (old skool faux SLR stylee! I haven't touched that in years!) to blur out the bushes and separate the subject a bit more. A touch of Unsharp Mask and we're done.

Edit: Although, now that I've uploaded it, he looks slightly zombified. I never know how to resolve the colour difference between Photoshop and the browser.

Edit: Awesome! Underwater photography is so much fun. You're gonna have a blast with that.

I like that top pic Herbalizer - it's got an amount of movement that gives a good feel for the action.

I haven't done anything this w/e - it's been so miserably rainy here I just have fancies venturing out.

and a little lady bug my cat tried to squash...

Great shots all. I particularly like the jukebox funkydan and the ladybird wicky - great depth of field contrast and textures.

Another shot of the abandoned railway tunnel.

Still miserable and raining here. Bah. I really wanted to get out this weekend.
