Wow I love those fire pictures! I want to try something like that now. They are great
Not sure about the lens above, as I am not familiar with the Nikon eqipment. 55 to 100mm makes a nice length for portraits, Im sure you will get some nice pictures especially if you can get your subjects a bit in front of any background distraction. 200mm is reasonable reach (not sure what you are using now) but if you are after wildlife and small birds you may find it a bit short. I find 400mm on a crop body short!
Of couse it depends on what you want to use it for.
40D arrived its a lovely thing, so much easier to hold. 400D went the way of my father with all they cheap lenses I had so that helped pay for : a Tamron 17-50 f2.8. Build quality is great, nice solid plastic build, good grippy zoom ring and the tension on the zoom ring is rather stiff which I like. AF is not noisy but a little high-pitched but its bloody fast on the 40D. AF noise is not an issue its not usm but its not loud imo.
now I just need to find something to take a picture of. Been struggling of late

Yeah I got a request from shmap too, I let them use my picture because I never thought it was particularly good or original.
Forced myself out today to take a few shots. Glad I did because I started to really enjoy myself. Sorry its just macro, I know its not everyones cup of tea.
I forget how hard macro is, nevermind the issues of narrow depth of field and focus issues, I got eaten alive by all sorts of insects.
First shots I have uploaded from the 40D. Pretty boring stuff, the really interesting insects didn't wait around long enough for me to get a keeper. I saw a few strange bugs tonight, just wish I had got a few more to show.

Amazing shots winky, the focus and detail is incredible. That 40D is going to be very special me thinks
Funny you posted insects, as one landed on me today whilst i had my camera so i flicked it to auto and managed to get this... Nothing like your shots but for a quick shot from the hip if you will, it's pretty cool. He was an amazing colour green which doesn't really show in the picture

Does anyone here have any experience of geotagging their photos? I went to Malmo and Copenhagen over the bank holiday weekend and I'm trying to use GPSed to create a map of all my photos but I can't get the bloody thing to work at all.
Can anyone else recommend me any different geotagging software? I've got the photos, I've got the routes saved from the GPS in my Nokia N82, I just need some software to put the two together

Cant help with the GPS thing HumanEnergy. I have no idea about the software. I geotag my photographs manually on Flickr.
Boris I like those pictures. I assume they are lights installed in the ground, but I cant tell what would have caused the white path in the first one. Would like to try something like that one day, very cool effect.
Couple from my weekend. I planned to go out this evening for more insects but I think the weather has other plans. (I also had to cancel the BBQ). I was hoping tonight would be like yesterday:
Very happy with this one. Although I blew the reflections on the buttercup, its not too distracting I dont think.
This is one I would like to try again, with a nicer background (either all sky or some sun perhaps) I like the idea even if its not the best picture.
