Yeah, those range finder shots have a very nice unique look about them. I like them a lot.

Since shooting more with it and the new (old) lens last week I have fallen in love with photography again in a big way....just shooting all the time, even when there isn't much of any great interest. I love shooting every day people going about there every day business. Rangefinder photography is often linked with street photography which i am a big fan of.

As for the new Leica Digital M...its the stuff of my dreams but in some ways the R-D1 that I own is perfect. Its only 6mp but is capable of stunning results (just not by me). The joy for me though is using a camera where I can adjust ISO with my thumb and aperture on the lens, as aperture (and so DOF) is an important part of what I love in photos.

Alastair, great shot...not sure I would have the nerve to get that close! Brilliant detail.

Having used an M3 for a while ti know how much i like using a small discreet quiet and also so easy and simple camera I have often thought about the epson, I use DOF an aweful lot and love using fast primes, even my cheapo 50mm f1.8 canon is absolutely perfect!

Yep. I got a Voigtlander 50mm f1.5 with it and an old Summaron 35mm f3.5. The summaron is obviously not fast at f3.5 but it produces lovely, if soft, images which is great for certain shoots. The lens is over 50 years old.

I also got the 12mm voigtlander with it (which requires an external viewfinder) but haven't used it yet.

Finally I caved and bought the 4th generation Summicron 35mm f2. I got it second hand and its a few years old but was still pricey. But, worth every penny. The lens will live on the camera 90% of the time as its so small and does have brilliant bokeh (yeah, I know, arty wank). And even though its only an f2 the great results at ISO1600 make it usable in all but the very lowest light.

As I have said before the only real downside is not having access to a zoom but I have the very compact DLux2 for that stuff.

Anyway, if you haven't ever used an Epson it might be worth a go. I would happily meet and let you take some shots at some point if you want. They are in limited supply but a few are appearing now as people make way for the M8. I think Calumet have been ebaying theirs and have been selling for around ?800-900. There are some issues around QA which shouldn't be ignored but this is a one of a kind camera and I will happily take my chances.

Forget all that! Now I have seen the full M8 press release I want one! Anyone want a used R-D1

I'm sold and saving up now!!! and my dad's 35mm summaron f2.8 would be perfect on this! That tri elmarit lense though, mmmmmmm.

I have never seen such a well sorted looking camera. The hints seem to be that the image quality is bang on too.

Yes, it look amazing doesn't it. The new 28mm lens is a winner too, very small and hopefully it will be the business...not taht I am in the market for any more lenses (especially not brand new Leica glass) in the next year or so.

I Did briefly wonder if I should flog my R-D1 quickly before it becomes worthless but prices have been dropping already (one on ebay for ?800). Anyway, going to keep the R-D1 and maybe look at an M8 next year. Who knows, Zeiss or Voigtlander might go digital next year....

It is, how did you work that one out? (unless you've been on the Amateur Photography forums!).

Got plenty more where that came from, however my trial Photoshop has expired so will take a few days to source either Elements or Full product. mmmm ?45 or ?450 wonder which way i'll go!

(Don't worry left Devon now, it should be safe again!)

Because all my sunrise efforts were from Budleigh also, and that huge lump of cliff always got in the way!
I live about 10 minutes away too.

                                OK, looking for some advice....

Currently I have a Casio Z600 compact point and shoot, and while it's handy to carry around due to it being reallllly small, I have quickly realised that it has it's limits in terms of the photos I can take with it. I'd really like to get to the stage where I can take shots that I could proudly put up on a wall at home.

As such, I am thinking about either replacing it or getting a second, better camera, and that's where the dilemma starts.

Do I look at moving straight to a DSLR like a 350D, or am I better off getting a bridge camera like the Panny FZ7 or the Sony H2 ultra zoomers ?

It's gonna be a whole lot cheaper for me to go for something like the H2, and I will probably sell on the Casio if that's the way I go.

I will more than likely feel like keeping the Casio if I get a DSLR, so I will always have a lighter camera if I need it, so it's gonna be double expensive !

Anyone been down the bridge camera route, and if so, what did you pick ?

My head is teling me to go for a bridge camera, as it seems to be a cheaper way to learn more about photography, but speaking to a few people, I have been told that I would soon be looking to upgrade again to a DSLR.

My other worry is that I'll spend a bundle on a DSLR and realise that I was getting poor shots because of a lack of talent and not 'cause the Casio is average

Any thoughts or advice gladly received.
