?75 for that lovely lenses kit Marty?! A bargain if there ever was one.

Lovely photos too especially the second one on the previous page; I suppose you are going the way of Ish for good now, eh?

Anyway, I went to the Suffolk Show today and took about 500+ photos from 9:30am till 5:25pm - I had a lovely day but as I drunk two pints of Guinness in the afternoon without eating anything before hand, I put my camera away for the vast majority of the afternoon unfortunately.

    I have a question:

I took about 200 photos that has one or (many) more children in the frame; is it 'wrong' to keep those or even put them up on flickr despite asking the parents or whoever was with them if it is alright if I keep the photo and everybody bar one uptight bloke said yes?

    Some good photos to come.

I've got one of those (imported it from HK) - its a bargain at the price. It blurs out a bit post 200mm but for ?75 you just can't complain!

        Cheeky bugger

As to the kids... who knows... if they were incidental to the picture i.e. I was taking a photo of something and there were kids around it then I probably would think its harmless to post. If the kids are the focus though... I'd feel a bit uncomfortable without permission.

The only kids I've taken shots of are my friends. And I've never posted them anywhere public - just shared them with my friends.

Cheers. That shot is from my macro lens, which is why it's a touch sharper

As for the kids, there's no legal issue with photographing anyone, adults or children, if they are in a public place.

Marty's right, there's no legal problem so long as they are in public but there may well be other issues (mainly at the time though with parents complaining I'd guess). It sounds like it's worse in the states though where everyone pointing a camera at a kid is considered a peado.

If they are partaking in something interesting then I guess it's OK and fair game but I would imagine you'd get some funny comments just shooting portraits of random kids.

So, as I mentioned yesterday I went round town with my camera looking for urban/graf shots. I came back with birds!

All biggable by clicking, well worth it on the last one as you can see the chaffinches tongue sticking out!

I really haven't had the chance to play much with my camera lately, and I've been trying to make the best of the pictures I took at the expo. The problem I found was that with using shutter priority, I was expecting real nice 'portrait' style sharp images with soft backgrounds, as I assumed the aperture would basically just open wide. For some reason it doesn't seem to have done it as much as I'd expected though. I guess the problem of shooting somewhere like that is that you're bound to get busy backgrounds.

Although it's a bit blurred, I was really pleased with the timing on this one. I caught it just at the end of the slice, he didn't touch the candles but put them all out.

It would've benefited from a longer lens I think, but on the bigger views you can see some of the candles lit, some out and some on their way.

Unfortunately it's not a very nice picture to look at

It's probably the distance away that you were babs that has affected the blur of the background, also the fact that it was shot at f5.3, try Av mode next time and see what happens. Framing wise it may hev been btter with his whole body in shot.

GT, just seen on your blog you got some images accepted by Alamy. Congrats, how did you do the re-sizing of jpegs et to get them up to the required standard? And how many total did you submit?

Went out for a walk at lunch time, took quite a lot of shots but most are quite ordinary. I did like this one though, and it was taken with the 70-300mm lens.

Initial quality check for 10 images. The resize is one that catches a few out. It needs to be 48mb uncompressed. Images from the 5 come out to around 36mb. I just use photoshop to increase the image size up to around 5100 x 3400 (rough guess). Also make sure the images are not sharpened at all (easy to do when shooting raw).

I've got another 100 or so waiting to be processed by them, wait time is usually around 25-40 days!. They are meant to be introducing an upload facility soon, this might speed things up.

                      Johnsons coaches marty?

No idea - I just liked the colours and perspective, all the shadows in line - the more I look at the pic the more I like it. Makes a change from the macros too.

I'm still confused, jpegs after converting from RAW here are around 2.5-3.5mb, how the hell do I get them up to 48,b?

Did manage some graf shots yesterday and have PP'd them now.

Seriously needs to be seen larger by clicking. 2 shots stitched together.

Alastair, I like the Pigeon pic. It has the 3D look due to compression.

2.5/3.5mb is the compressed size. Just open the image in Photoshop and the uncompress size is shown in the bottom left of the image.

The image size in the link is 55mb, compressed it comes out about 8mb. This is saved as at jpeg compression level 12. I resize using the Bicubic Smoother option.

Did a bit of street today...

Everyone's gone street ... some nice shots there.

I had another look through the stuff I did yesterday and did some post processing on what was a truly dreadful over exposed mess Looks better large, definitely not a very good photo, though it shows post-processing can improve things a little.
