Wow, only 69. As a kid we never listened to BBC radio but I do remember Steve from Top of the Pops during the 80s.

Steve was actually a second cousin of mine, I remember him appearing at various weddings. What a shame.

Sad news about Steve Wright, but that's quite a legacy.
I would imagine nearly all of us will have heard one of his shows over the years because he's been such an ever-present staple on the airwaves.

Lots of people who worked with him are saying how lovely he was as a person, which is always nice to hear, rather than standard platitudes.

Agreed.

People forget that a lot of those BBC Radio 1 DJs from the 1970s and 1980s were pretty much superstars back then (regulars on TV as well as radio) and it doesn't help that they're all passing away, one by one.

I'm 42 at the end of the month so I obviously recall Steve Wright but I didn't listen to his Radio 1 show. I saw him on TV first and eventually heard him on BBC Radio via the World Service radio show "Wright Around The World" that he hosted for four years in the late 90s/early 2000s.
